 2024 Preview

Hewitt-Trussville completed the 2023 season with a 9-4 record. With their 5-2 region record and a second place finish in Class 7A region three, the Huskies earned a spot in the playoffs in 2023. Hewitt-Trussville made a nice playoff run in 2023, reaching the semi-finals before falling to a very good Thompson team by the score of 21-10.

Since 2010, Hewitt-Trussville has gone a combined 108-53. Their 67.1% winning percentage ranks 6th in Class 7A over the past fourteen seasons.

Over the past 25 seasons, Hewitt-Trussville has managed to compile a record of 185-99. Their 65.0% winning percentage ranks 8th in Class 7A and 71st in the AHSAA.

Graduated All-State Players:
The Huskies lost a ton of talent to graduation off the 2023 squad. Replacing these players will be a key to another successful season. Hewitt-Trussville lost 7A All-State  offensive lineman Donovan Price to graduation. He was named to the first team last season. Also graduating were teammates athlete Peyton Floyd, receiver Jadon Loving, defensive lineman Tyrell Averhart and defensive back Riggs Dunn.

Head Coach:
The Huskies are led by head coach Josh Floyd who is entering his eleventh season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 82-35 over the past ten seasons at Hewitt-Trussville. Under his direction the Huskies have qualified for the playoffs a total of nine times. They have won two region crowns with Coach Floyd. The win total includes 82 wins in Alabama and 99 victories from outside the state.

Season Outlook:

The Hewitt-Trussville Huskies will play in Class 7A region three during the 2024 season.

The loss of Peyton Floyd at QB will be difficult to replace for the Huskies. They will also be without their leading receiver Jadon Loving who graduated.

The Huskies only return four starters from last season to the offense and six on defense so they will be a young team in 2024.

They do have some young players who Coach Floyd believes will contribute early in the season. He told AHSFHS.org ''We lost some starters on offense that had a lot of experience so that's a challenge. We must replace 2-time All-State QB & DL. Must also replace kicker. Tough region.''

He also said ''We feel like we have some weapons on O and might be better at the skill positions but have to replace QB and most of OL. RB's should be a big strength for us.'' He elaborated on the the Huskies prospects for this year; ''Defense returns a good nucleus. We have a chance to be really good on defense with good speed. Overall, we are young this season but definitely excited about the future. We will be relying on some young guys but they are going to be really good players.''

The Huskies are considered one of the favorites for the region three championship this season and a home game in the first round of the playoffs.

Players to Watch in 2024:
On defense Owen Robinson will be back after collecting 90 tackles (44 solo) from his MLB position last season. WR Jacob Serena will be back as a 3-year starter. He had 64 Receptions 779 Yards & 6 TDs.

Parker Floyd will also return for his junior season after posting 105 tackles (62 solo) last season for the Huskies. WR Dylan Cope added 41 receptions for 400 Yards & 3 TDs.
