2024 Preview | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Prattville finished the 2023 season with a disappointing 3-7 record. Last year Prattville finished seventh in Class 7A region two with a 2-6 region record and failed to qualify for the playoffs. Prattville took a step backwards last year with their first losing season since 2017. The Lions lost as many games as in any season since 2016. The defense allowed a team record 355 points last season. Prattville struggled on the defensive side of the football last year. The defense found little success in stopping opposing offenses as they gave up an average of 35.5 points a game. Since 2010, Prattville has gone a combined 93-59. Their 61.2% winning percentage ranks 13th in Class 7A over the past fourteen seasons. Over the past 25 seasons, Prattville has finished a combined 224-74. Their 75.0% winning percentage ranks 4th in Class 7A and 20th in the AHSAA. The Lions have been successful on the football field with twenty-two winning seasons during this time. Graduated All-State Players: Prattville lost 7A All-State kicker Reid Montgomery to graduation. He was named to the second team last season. Head Coach: The Lions are led by head coach Jason Wallace who is entering his fourth season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 16-15 over the past three seasons at Prattville. Under his direction the Lions have qualified for the playoffs once. They have not won a region crown with Coach Wallace. Over the course of his career, Coach Wallace's teams have qualified for the playoffs a total of five times and won one region championship. Season Outlook: The Prattville Lions will play in Class 7A region three during the 2024 season. Following realignment, the Lions remain in 7A but move from region two over to region three. So will the move from region 2 to region 3 help the Lions or do they continue the recent trend of being a middle of the pack football program? It is no picnic playing in either region but region 3 is loaded with playoff quality teams and only four can make the post season. The Lions return four starters to the offense and six on defense in 2024. One key will be to find starters along the offensive line early in the season. With a quality starter at quarterback and two wide receivers if the offensive line jells the offense could be in good shape. The Lions will need to win a few more games this fall if they hope to grab one of the four playoff slots in region three this season. Players to Watch in 2024: QB Gavin Rigdon completed 121-of-225 passes for 1,725 yards as a junior last year for the Lions. He will return to the offense this season. Returning Starters: OFFENSE: QB Gavin Rigdon, WR KJ Blue, WR Donavan Brown, H-Back/TE Colin Segerrs DEFENSE: LB Tim Rawlinson Jr., LB Tre Rawlinson, LB Sam Cook, DL Jake McConnell, DL Jamari Reid Season Opener: The Lions open the 2024 season at home against non-region opponent Pike Road on Thursday, August 22 at Stanley Jenson Stadium. Last year the Pike Road Patriots finished with an overall record of 11-3 and in first place in Class 6A region two. The Patriots lost in the semi-finals round of the Class 6A playoffs to Saraland by a score of 46-7. Prattville and Pike Road have met a total of 3 times on the football field. The Lions have a 1-1-1 record against the Patriots. They last met in 1927 with the teams battling to a 0-0 tie. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
