The Belgreen Bulldogs will field a football team for the first time this fall. They will be led by head football coach Jonathan Raper as they prepare for their initial season on the gridiron. Coaching Change: New Program 2024 Head Coach: Jonathan Raper spent eleven years as the Phil Campbell baseball coach, before being hired to coach football at Belgreen in August 2023. Under AHSAA regulations, the Bulldogs will only be able to play a junior high and junior varsity schedule for two years before embarking on a season against varsity competition. Season Outlook: The Belgreen Bulldogs will play in Class Ind region during the 2024 season. The Bulldogs will have a difficult time competing in Class Ind with a young team in their initial season. Season Opener: The Bulldogs open the 2024 season at home against non-region opponent Shoals Christian on Friday, August 23 at Sparks Stadium. Last year the Shoals Christian Flame finished with an overall record of 5-6 and in fourth place in Class 1A region eight. The Flame lost in the first round of the Class 1A playoffs to Lynn by a score of 53-7. This will be the second meeting between Belgreen and Shoals Christian on the football field.
