2024 Preview | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Chickasaw completed the 2023 season with a 5-6 record. With their 3-2 region record and a third place finish in Class 2A region one, the Chieftains earned a spot in the playoffs in 2023. Chickasaw's season came to an end in the first round of the playoffs when they fell to Thorsby by a score of 50-16. Chickasaw took a step backwards last year with their first losing season since 2018. The defense allowed a team record 357 points last season. The Chieftains have never won a playoff game in the school's history. They would like to break through and pick up that first post season victory in 2024. Chickasaw is a relatively new football program having fielded a team only ten seasons. They have managed a record of 47-58 over the past ten years. Over the past 10 seasons, Chickasaw has managed to compile a record of 47-58. Their 45.0% winning percentage ranks 35th in Class 2A and 237th in the AHSAA. The Chieftains have struggled on the football field with only four winning seasons during this time. Coaching Change: Carl Herring departs from Chickasaw after two seasons as the head football coach with a record of 12-10. Both his teams qualified for the playoffs but fell in the first round. 2024 Head Coach: Dedrick Sumpter is familiar with the Mobile area having served as the head coach at Williamson and Blount previously. Sumpter spent the last two seasons as Pike County's offensive coordinator. Over the course of his career, Coach Sumpter's teams have qualified for the playoffs a total of five times and won one region championship. Season Outlook: The Chickasaw Chieftains will play in Class 2A region one during the 2024 season. The Chieftains finished last year with a 5-6 record but did reach the playoffs for the second consecutive season. Can they build on that success with a new head football coach in 2024? The Chieftains have a good shot at one of the last two playoff slots in region one this season. Returning Starters: WR/DB Tonnell Harris, DE Marvin Brooks, LB/WR Jacob Rembert, TE/LB Corey Collins, RB/SS Larry Weaver-Martin, RB/WR Jamarion Osborne, WR/CB Sydrus Gilmore Season Opener: The Chieftains open the 2024 season on the road against non-region opponent Robertsdale on Friday, August 23 at J.D. Sellers Stadium. Last year the Robertsdale Golden Bears finished with an overall record of 0-10 and in ninth place in Class 6A region one. The Golden Bears closed out the regular season with a loss to Baldwin County by a score of 43-13. This will be the second meeting between Chickasaw and Robertsdale on the football field. The Chieftains have a 0-1-0 record against the Golden Bears. They last met in with | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
