2024 Preview | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Cold Springs completed the 2023 season with a 4-6 record. Last year Cold Springs finished sixth in Class 2A region five with a 1-5 region record and failed to qualify for the playoffs. The Eagles last playoff victory came during the 1993 season. They would love to break through this year with a post season win. Cold Springs struggled on the defensive side of the football last year. The defense found little success in stopping opposing offenses as they gave up an average of 35.7 points a game. Since 2010, Cold Springs has gone a combined 50-94. Their 34.7% winning percentage ranks 42nd in Class 2A over the past fourteen seasons. Over the past 25 seasons, Cold Springs has not won much with a record of 83-172. Their 32.0% winning percentage ranks 47th in Class 2A and 340th in the AHSAA. Head Coach: The Eagles are led by head coach Brendan Voce who is entering his third season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 8-12 over the past two seasons at Cold Springs. The Eagles have yet to reach the playoffs under his direction. They have not won a region crown with Coach Voce. Season Outlook: The Cold Springs Eagles will play in Class 2A region six during the 2024 season. Following realignment, the Eagles remain in 2A but move from region five over to region six. The Eagles have not qualified for the playoffs since the 2019 season and finished sixth the past two years. The Eagles could find themselves challenging for one of the playoff spots for region six this season with a few breaks and a little improvement. Cold Springs has failed to qualify for the playoffs since 2019 but hope to return to the post season this year. Players to Watch in 2024: RB Matt Williams will also be back after rushing for 1,086 yards and 14 TDs last season. Returning Starters: CB/FS Mason Gable, TE/CB Clayton Terry, RB/OLB Tycen Kilgo, QB/FS Ethan Day, MLB/C William Jackson, G/DT Bailey Gann Season Opener: The Eagles open the 2024 season on the road against non-region opponent Hanceville on Friday, August 23 at Ray Talley Stadium. Last year the Hanceville Bulldogs finished with an overall record of 4-6 and in sixth place in Class 4A region six. The Bulldogs ended last season on a positive note with a win over East Lawrence by a score of 41-26 after failing to gain a playoff spot. Cold Springs and Hanceville have met a total of 9 times on the football field. The Eagles have a 3-6-0 record against the Bulldogs. They last met in 2017 with Hanceville winning by a score of 36-20. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
