 2024 Preview 


       Evangel Christian Academy finished the 2023 season with a disappointing 3-8 record. With their 1-4 region record and a fifth place finish in Class AISA-8 Man region one, the Lions earned a spot in the playoffs in 2023. Last year Evangel Christian Academy reached the semi-finals before falling to a very good Cornerstone Christian team by the score of 44-20.

       Evangel Christian Academy took a step backwards last year with their first losing season since 2018. The defense allowed a team record 479 points last season.

       Since 2010, Evangel Christian Academy has gone a combined 48-83. Their 36.6% winning percentage ranks 3rd in Class A over the past fourteen seasons.

       Over the past 22 seasons, Evangel Christian Academy has not won much with a record of 73-148. Their 33.0% winning percentage ranks 4th in Class A and 25th in the AISA.

Head Coach:
       The Lions are led by head coach Darius Dixon who is entering his third season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 9-13 over the past two seasons at Evangel Christian Academy. Under his direction the Lions have qualified for the playoffs a total of two times. They have not won a region crown with Coach Dixon. Coach Dixon led to a state championship in 2022.

Season Outlook:

       The Evangel Christian Academy Lions will play in Class A region one during the 2024 season. The Lions may find the schedule slightly easier this season with the move down in classification from Class AISA-8 Man to A. They will compete in region one this year.

      

      

    The Lions could find themselves challenging for one of the playoff spots for region one this season with a few breaks and a little improvement.

Season Opener:
       The Lions open the 2024 season at home against non-region opponent Ezekiel Academy on Friday, August 23. Last year the Ezekiel Academy Knights finished with an overall record of 7-3 and in place in Class 8 Man region six. The Knights lost in the first round of the Class 8 Man playoffs to Lighthouse Home School by a score of 72-46.

       Evangel Christian Academy and Ezekiel Academy have met a total of 4 times on the football field. The Lions have a 0-4-0 record against the Knights. They last met in 2023 with Ezekiel Academy winning by a score of 60-34.
