 2024 Preview 


       Glencoe finished the 2023 season with a disappointing 3-7 record. Last year Glencoe finished eighth in Class 3A region six with a 0-7 region record and failed to qualify for the playoffs.

       The Yellow Jackets won as many games as in any season since 2016. The defense allowed a team record 414 points last season.

       Glencoe struggled on the defensive side of the football last year. The defense found little success in stopping opposing offenses as they gave up an average of 41.4 points a game.

       Since 2010, Glencoe has gone a combined 69-83. Their 45.4% winning percentage ranks 39th in Class 3A over the past fourteen seasons.

       Over the past 25 seasons, Glencoe has managed to compile a record of 131-136. Their 49.0% winning percentage ranks 33rd in Class 3A and 213rd in the AHSAA.

Head Coach:
       The Yellow Jackets are led by head coach Scott Martin who is entering his third season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 5-15 over the past two seasons at Glencoe. The Yellow Jackets have yet to reach the playoffs under his direction. They have not won a region crown with Coach Martin. The win total includes 88 wins in Alabama and 81 victories from outside the state. Over the course of his career, Coach Martin's teams have qualified for the playoffs a total of nine times and won two region championships.

Season Outlook:

       The Glencoe Yellow Jackets will play in Class 3A region six during the 2024 season.

      

       The Yellow Jackets have not found success on the football field in a few years. Their last winning season was back in 2015 which was the last time they reached the playoffs. Coach Martin has been successful as a head coach in previous stops and hopefully will get the program at Glencoe turned around soon.

       Coach Martin believes the line will be the strength of this year's team both on the offense and defense. He will have twelve seniors back when they open the season which will be a plus for the Jackets. This will be his third season at Glencoe and hopes they can get over the hurdle which would equate to a winning season.

       He said at media days the leadership has been great along with the mentality.

    The Yellow Jackets could find themselves challenging for one of the playoff spots for region six this season with a few breaks and a little improvement. Glencoe has failed to qualify for the playoffs since 2015 but hope to return to the post season this year.

Players to Watch in 2024:
      RB Aaron Mann will be back after rushing for 1,056 yards and 12 TDs last season.

      WR Jayden Patton will be returning for his senior season after catching 46 passes for 736 yards and 6 touchdowns.

Season Opener:
       The Yellow Jackets open the 2024 season on the road against non-region opponent Southeastern on Friday, August 23 at Southeastern Stadium. Last year the Southeastern Mustangs finished with an overall record of 7-4 and in second place in Class 2A region six. The Mustangs lost in the second round of the Class 2A playoffs to Tuscaloosa Academy by a score of 38-6.

       This will be the second meeting between Glencoe and Southeastern on the football field. The Yellow Jackets have a 1-0-0 record against the Mustangs. They last met in with
