2024 Preview | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Greene County finished the 2023 season with a disappointing 2-7 record. Last year Greene County finished seventh in Class 2A region five with a 0-6 region record and failed to qualify for the playoffs. The Tigers last playoff victory came during the 2000 season. They would love to break through this year with a post season win. Greene County was inconsistent offensively last year and they need some improvement if the Tigers want to be competitive. They only averaged 16.0 points a game. Since 2010, Greene County has gone a combined 44-95. Their 31.7% winning percentage ranks 47th in Class 2A over the past fourteen seasons. Over the past 24 seasons, Greene County has managed to compile a record of 90-152. Their 37.0% winning percentage ranks 46th in Class 2A and 313rd in the AHSAA. Head Coach: The Tigers are led by head coach Cory Cockrell who is entering his second season at the helm. His team finished with a 2-7 record in his first season at Greene County. The Tigers have yet to reach the playoffs under his direction. They have not won a region crown with Coach Cockrell. Season Outlook: The Greene County Tigers will play in Class 2A region five during the 2024 season. Greene County will face six opponents that reached the playoffs last season. The Tigers enter the 2024 season in the middle of a 7 game losing streak. They would like nothing better than to end the string of losses early in the season. The Tigers have not had a winning season since 2017 and will be looking to get back on a winning track in 2024 under second year head coach Cory Cockwell. The Tigers will need to win a few more games this fall if they hope to grab one of the four playoff slots in region five this season. After just 2 wins last year, Greene County will be hoping to become more competitive in the region. Players to Watch in 2024: RB Ronald Wilder Jr. will also be back after rushing for 1,000 yards and 13 TDs last season. Returning Starters: QB/CB Jeremiah Bullock, WR/CB Michael Gibson, RB/LB Jordan Thomas, LB/WR Markevis Collier, WR/S Khamari Young Season Opener: The Tigers open the 2024 season at home against non-region opponent Sipsey Valley on Friday, August 23 at Greene County Stadium. Last year the Sipsey Valley Bears finished with an overall record of 6-5 and in third place in Class 4A region three. The Bears lost in the first round of the Class 4A playoffs to Andalusia by a score of 43-6. Greene County and Sipsey Valley have met a total of 3 times on the football field. The Tigers have a 0-3-0 record against the Bears. They last met in 2013 with Sipsey Valley winning by a score of 41-0. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
