 2024 Preview

Vincent completed the 2023 season with a 6-5 record. With their 4-3 region record and a fourth place finish in Class 2A region four, the Yellow Jackets earned a spot in the playoffs in 2023. Vincent's season came to an end in the first round of the playoffs when they fell to Clarke County by a score of 20-9.

Since 2010, Vincent has gone a combined 67-82. Their 45.0% winning percentage ranks 36th in Class 2A over the past fourteen seasons.

Over the past 25 seasons, Vincent has managed to compile a record of 124-143. Their 46.0% winning percentage ranks 31st in Class 2A and 219th in the AHSAA.

Graduated All-State Players:
Vincent lost 2A All-State  offensive lineman Zach Gable to graduation. He was named to the second team last season.

Head Coach:
The Yellow Jackets are led by head coach Lucas Weatherford who is entering his seventh season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 30-34 over the past six seasons at Vincent. Under his direction the Yellow Jackets have qualified for the playoffs a total of three times. They have not won a region crown with Coach Weatherford.

Season Outlook:

The Vincent Yellow Jackets will play in Class 2A region five during the 2024 season. Following realignment, the Yellow Jackets remain in 2A but move from region four over to region five.

The Yellow Jackets have one of the toughest overall schedules in Class 2A. Their opponents had a combined record of 72-42 last season. That ranks 1st in Class 2A and 17th in the AHSAA. Vincent will face six opponents that reached the playoffs last season.

The Yellow Jackets will be looking to improve upon the 6-5 record from last season. They return enough starters to make that happen. Fields is back at quarterback along with two starting wide receivers and four offensive linemen.

The Wildcats will open the 2024 football season without the services of running back Rykelus Robertson who graduated in the spring along with the 1,448 yards and 16 touchdowns he scored last year.

The defense will return nine starters including MLB Grayson Gulde who will once again secure the middle of the field for the Jackets. A rather tough non-region schedule with 3A B.B. Comer, 5A Montevallo and 3A Childersburg on the slate. With the AHSAA realignment region 5 has six teams that qualified for the playoffs last year. Someone will be left out of the post season come November.

The Yellow Jackets have a good shot at one of the last two playoff slots in region five this season.

Players to Watch in 2024:
MLB Grayson Gulde collected 139 tackles (79 solo) including 2 sacks and will be back for his senior season.

DB Aiden Poe with 68 tackles and 39 solo tackles last season will also return in 2024.

Returning Starters:
OFFENSE: QB Casen Fields, FB Aiden Gasaway, WR Aiden Poe, WR Phoenix Maxwell, T Dontavion Keith, G Grayson Gulde, G Keller Finn, C Brayden Abbott
DEFENSE: DL Ethan McElrath, DL Zahmir McMillian, LB Grayson Gulde, LB Aiden Gasaway, LB KJ Chapman, S Aiden Poe, S Landon Archer, CB Phoenix Maxwell, CB Deontaye Robertson
SPECIAL TEAMS: K Daniel Campos, LS Aiden Gasaway, P Landon Archer

Season Opener:
The Yellow Jackets open the 2024 season on the road against non-region opponent Winterboro on Friday, August 23 at Bulldog Stadium. Last year the Winterboro Bulldogs finished with an overall record of 6-6 and in fourth place in Class 1A region six. The Bulldogs lost in the second round of the Class 1A playoffs to Pickens County by a score of 32-29.

Vincent and Winterboro have met a total of 42 times on the football field. The Yellow Jackets have a 26-14-2 record against the Bulldogs. They last met in 2023 with Vincent winning by a score of 29-0.
