 2024 Preview 


       Childersburg completed the 2023 season with a 4-6 record. Last year Childersburg just missed making the playoffs with a fifth place finish in Class 3A region four with a 2-4 region record.

       Since 2010, Childersburg has gone a combined 51-94. Their 35.2% winning percentage ranks 48th in Class 3A over the past fourteen seasons.

       Over the past 25 seasons, Childersburg has managed to compile a record of 98-158. Their 38.0% winning percentage ranks 46th in Class 3A and 304th in the AHSAA.

Head Coach:
       The Tigers are led by head coach Johnny Johnson who is entering his fifth season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 12-28 over the past four seasons at Childersburg. The Tigers have yet to reach the playoffs under his direction. They have not won a region crown with Coach Johnson.

Season Outlook:

       The Childersburg Tigers will play in Class 3A region four during the 2024 season.

       The Tigers have one of the toughest overall schedules in Class 3A. Their opponents had a combined record of 67-46 last season. That ranks 7th in Class 3A and 45th in the AHSAA.

       The Childersburg Tigers finished last year with a record of 4-6 and have not won more than six games in any season since 2013. They have also not reached the playoffs since 2017. Can the Tigers get back to winning a few more games and get back to the post season this year?

       The Tigers will face eight teams that qualified for the playoffs in 2023. The Tigers will also have to contend with AHSAA newcomers in Glenwood and Lee-Scott this year. They also are in the same region with B.B. Comer so playoff spots will be at a premium in 2024.

    The Tigers will need to win a few more games this fall if they hope to grab one of the four playoff slots in region four this season.

    Unfortunately, Childersburg plays in a region with the likes of B.B. Comer, Glenwood School, Lee-Scott Academy and Randolph County making it more difficult to claim one of the playoff spots. The Tigers will need to find a way to upset one of those teams to have any chance at the post season.

Season Opener:
       The Tigers open the 2024 season on the road against non-region opponent Fayetteville on Friday, August 23 at FarmLinks Field. Last year the Fayetteville Wolves finished with an overall record of 3-7 and in seventh place in Class 2A region four. The Wolves ended last season on a positive note with a win over Holy Spirit by a score of 47-0 after failing to gain a playoff spot.

       Childersburg and Fayetteville have met a total of 3 times on the football field. The Tigers have a 2-1-0 record against the Wolves. They last met in 2021 with Childersburg winning by a score of 39-0.

Thomasville scored 54 points against Gulf Shores in the first quarter of a game in 2003. They managed to hang on for an 81-14 win.
