2024 Preview | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Beulah completed the 2023 season with a 4-7 record. With their 3-3 region record and a fourth place finish in Class 3A region four, the Bobcats earned a spot in the playoffs in 2023. Beulah's season came to an end in the first round of the playoffs when they fell to Mobile Christian by a score of 52-7. It marked the first time since the 2018 season that the Bobcats qualified for the playoffs. The Bobcats last playoff victory came during the 1994 season. They would love to break through this year with a post season win. Since 2010, Beulah has gone a combined 41-101. Their 28.9% winning percentage ranks 53rd in Class 3A over the past fourteen seasons. Over the past 25 seasons, Beulah has not won much with a record of 70-183. Their 28.0% winning percentage ranks 57th in Class 3A and 359th in the AHSAA. The Bobcats have struggled on the football field with only three winning seasons during this time. Graduated All-State Players: Beulah lost 3A All-State linebacker Bronson Dubose to graduation. He was named to the honorable mention team last season. Head Coach: The Bobcats are led by head coach Matthew Johnson who is entering his sixth season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 12-39 over the past five seasons at Beulah. Under his direction the Bobcats have qualified for the playoffs once. They have not won a region crown with Coach Johnson. Season Outlook: The Beulah Bobcats will play in Class 3A region four during the 2024 season. The Bobcats have one of the toughest overall schedules in Class 3A. Their opponents had a combined record of 75-37 last season. That ranks 4th in Class 3A and 6th in the AHSAA. With the AHSAA realignment region 4 has six teams that qualified for the playoffs last year. Four of those teams won at least 10 games. Someone will be left out of the post season come November. The Bobcats will have to contend with AHSAA newcomers in Glenwood and Lee-Scott this year. They also are in the same region with B.B. Comer so playoff spots will be tough to come by in 2024. The Bobcats could find themselves challenging for one of the playoff spots for region four this season with a few breaks and a little improvement. Unfortunately, Beulah plays in a region with the likes of B.B. Comer, Glenwood School, Lee-Scott Academy and Randolph County making it more difficult to claim one of the four playoff spots. The Bobcats will need to find a way to upset one of those teams to have any chance at the post season. Season Opener: The Bobcats open the 2024 season on the road against non-region opponent Abbeville on Friday, August 23 at Memorial Stadium. Last year the Abbeville Yellow Jackets finished with an overall record of 1-9 and in seventh place in Class 2A region two. Beulah and Abbeville have met a total of 3 times on the football field. The Bobcats have a 2-1-0 record against the Yellow Jackets. They last met in 2023 with Beulah winning by a score of 35-12. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
