2024 Preview | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Dadeville completed the 2023 season with a 4-5 record. With their 4-2 region record and a third place finish in Class 3A region four, the Tigers earned a spot in the playoffs in 2023. Dadeville's season came to an end in the first round of the playoffs when they fell to Thomasville by a score of 28-0. Dadeville took a step backwards last year with their first losing season since 2019. The Tigers hope to rebound after a down year. Last season they struggled winning just four games which followed a 10-1 record in 2022. Since 2010, Dadeville has gone a combined 99-56. Their 63.9% winning percentage ranks 12th in Class 3A over the past fourteen seasons. Over the past 25 seasons, Dadeville has managed to compile a record of 172-107. Their 62.0% winning percentage ranks 13th in Class 3A and 89th in the AHSAA. Coaching Change: Roger McDonald stepped down as the head coach at Dadeville in February of this year. McDonald took over the Dadeville football team in 2020 and led the team to the playoffs every year at the helm with an overall record of 26-14. In 18 seasons as a head football coach he has a record of 114-75 at Beauregard, Valley and Carroll. 2024 Head Coach: Chad McKelvey started as an assistant coach at Horseshoe Bend in 2005 moving to Dadeville as the offensive coordinator from 2008-2011. After leaving the sidelines he became the principal at Dadeville Elementary. For the last few years, McKelvey has been the principal at the Edward Bell Career Tech Center at Camp Hill. Season Outlook: The Dadeville Tigers will play in Class 3A region four during the 2024 season. The Tigers have one of the toughest overall schedules in Class 3A. Their opponents had a combined record of 90-29 last season. That ranks 1st in Class 3A and 1st in the AHSAA. With the AHSAA realignment region 4 has six teams that qualified for the playoffs last year. Four of those teams won at least 10 games. Someone will be left out of the post season come November. The Tigers will face nine teams that qualified for the playoffs in 2023. Dadeville will have to contend with AHSAA newcomers in Glenwood and Lee-Scott this year. They also are in the same region with B.B. Comer so playoff spots will be at a premium in 2024. The Tigers will welcome back running back Brandon Eason for another season following a great breakout year in 2023. The team will actually be very experienced with eight players who started last season returning on both sides of the football. Dadeville will have a new offense this season under first year head coach Chad McKelvey and defensive coordinator John Fussell. The Tigers could find themselves challenging for one of the playoff spots for region four this season with a few breaks and a little improvement. Unfortunately, Dadeville plays in a region with the likes of B.B. Comer, Glenwood School, Lee-Scott Academy and Randolph County making it more difficult to claim one of the four playoff spots. The Tigers will need to find a way to upset one of those teams to have any chance at the post season. Players to Watch in 2024: RB Brandez Eason will be returning for his junior season after rushing for 1,196 yards and 20 TDs last season. OLB Levi Childers collected 92 tackles (56 solo) and will be back for his senior season in 2023. LB Brandez Eason also gathered up 92 tackles (66 solo) and will be back for his senior season. Returning Starters: RB/LB Brandez Eason, ATH Cam Heard, RB/LB Jay Burns, RB/MLB Roderick Green, RB/LB Corde Jefferson, RB/MLB Roderick Green, OLB Levi Childers Season Opener: The Tigers open the 2024 season at home against non-region opponent Elmore County on Friday, August 23 at Tiger Stadium. Last year the Elmore County Panthers finished with an overall record of 8-3 and in third place in Class 5A region four. The Panthers lost in the first round of the Class 5A playoffs to Faith Academy by a score of 31-7. Dadeville and Elmore County have met a total of 56 times on the football field. The Tigers have a 36-20-0 record against the Panthers. They last met in 2021 with Dadeville winning by a score of 47-7. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
