 2024 Preview

Reeltown completed the 2023 season with a 13-1 record. The Rebels cruised through the regular season with a perfect 9-0 record going into the post season. Last year Reeltown captured the region three title and a number one seed in the Class 2A playoffs. They finished region play with a 7-0 record. The Rebels won four consecutive playoff games to reach the Class 2A State Championship game only to fall just short of claiming a title. They were defeated by Fyffe at the Alabama Super Seven 43-24 in Birmingham.

The 578 points scored by the Rebels last year were a team record in a single season.

The high-scoring Reeltown offense ranked 21st in the AHSAA. They averaged 41.3 points a game.

Over the past two seasons the Rebels have Finished 23-3 and will be looking to continue that winning tradition. Since 2010, Reeltown has gone a combined 124-47. Their 72.5% winning percentage ranks 2nd in Class 2A over the past fourteen seasons.

Over the past 25 seasons, Reeltown has finished a combined 220-91. Their 71.0% winning percentage ranks 2nd in Class 2A and 38th in the AHSAA. The Rebels have been successful on the football field with twenty-three winning seasons during this time. Their last losing season was 2007.

Graduated All-State Players:
Reeltown lost 2A All-State  running back Arthur Woods to graduation. He was named to the first team last season.

Head Coach:
The Rebels are led by head coach Matt Johnson who is entering his ninth season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 68-28 over the past eight seasons at Reeltown. Under his direction the Rebels have qualified for the playoffs a total of seven times. They have won four region crowns with Coach Johnson.

Season Outlook:

The Reeltown Rebels will play in Class 2A region four during the 2024 season. Following realignment, the Rebels remain in 2A but move from region three over to region four.

The Rebels have one of the toughest overall schedules in Class 2A. Their opponents had a combined record of 60-46 last season. That ranks 9th in Class 2A and 62nd in the AHSAA.

The Rebels enter the 2024 season riding a 17 game regular season winning streak. Reeltown has won 17 consecutive region games. They have won 14 straight games on their home turf at Nix-Webster-ONeal Stadium.

The Rebels lost six players to graduation who started in the Super 7 Championship game last season against Fyffe. Reeltown lost nine seniors to graduation but only five starters.

The Rebels will also open the 2024 football season without the services of running back Arthur Woods who graduated in the spring along with the 2,241 yards and 33 touchdowns he scored last year.

Tae Martin will be counted upon to carry the offense early for the Rebels. JaMarkius Smith may need some time to get settled in at the quarterback spot but count on Reeltown to be ready to make another of their patented playoff runs come November.

The offensive line should be solid with four starters back from last season. Their 17 game regular season winning streak could be in serious jeopardy with games against the likes of T.R. Miller and Trinity to open the season.

The Rebels enter the season with expectations of not only a region crown but will be contending for a trip to the state championship game. They are considered one the favorites in region four and should be a team in the thick of the hunt to represent the South in the Class 2A Super Seven come December.

Players to Watch in 2024:
WR Tae Martin will be returning after rushing for 672 yards and 11 TDs last season. He also caught 34 passes good for another 702 yards and 9 touchdowns. On defense he had 120 tackles (82 solo).

RB Traylen Roberts will be back for his sophomore season after rushing for 616 yards and 8 TDs last season. JaMarkius Smith will be the starting QB. He made appearances for the Rebels last season and is expected to have breakout season in 2024.

WR/DB Alijah Woods, a sophomore and younger brother to former Rebel great Arthur Woods has the looks to flourish as a first year starter who played a lot of reps as a backup on offense and defense last season.

Returning Starters:
WR/S Tae Martin, OLB/WR Demetrius Brown, FB/DL Devin Bragg, OL/DL Dylan Bryant, OL Larry Foy Jr., OL/DL Bowman Brumbeloe, WR/CB Larry Butler III, OLB/TE Finn Henderson, OL/DE Baylor Clayton, DE/TE CJ Maddox

Season Opener:
The Rebels open the 2024 season on a neutral field against non-region opponent T.R. Miller on Thursday, August 22 at Cramton Bowl. Last year the T.R. Miller Tigers finished with an overall record of 8-4 and in second place in Class 4A region one. The Tigers lost in the second round of the Class 4A playoffs to Catholic Montgomery by a score of 24-14.

This will be the second meeting between Reeltown and T.R. Miller on the football field. The Rebels have a 0-1-0 record against the Tigers. They last met in with
