2024 Preview | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Trinity completed the 2023 season with a 11-2 record. With their 5-1 region record and a second place finish in Class 3A region three, the Wildcats earned a spot in the playoffs in 2023. Trinity lost in the quarter-finals of the playoffs last season to a good Mobile Christian team by a score of 42-21. The Wildcats won as many games as in any season since 2010. The 478 points scored by the Wildcats last year were a team record in a single season. Since 2010, Trinity has gone a combined 104-59. Their 63.8% winning percentage ranks 14th in Class 3A over the past fourteen seasons. Over the past 25 seasons, Trinity has finished a combined 218-85. Their 72.0% winning percentage ranks 4th in Class 3A and 28th in the AHSAA. The Wildcats have been successful on the football field with twenty-one winning seasons during this time. Graduated All-State Players: Trinity lost 3A All-State receiver Webber McClinton to graduation. He was named to the first team last season. Also graduating were teammates linebacker Coleman Till and running back Ross Sanders. Head Coach: The Wildcats are led by head coach Brian Seymore who is entering his second season at the helm. His team finished with a 11-2 record in his first season at Trinity. The Wildcats saw improvement from a 9-3 record the season before coach Seymore arrived. Under his direction the Wildcats have qualified for the playoffs once. They have not won a region crown with Coach Seymore. His 136 wins rank 44th among active coaches in the AHSAA. Over the course of his career, Coach Seymore's teams have qualified for the playoffs a total of fourteen times and won seven region championships. Season Outlook: The Trinity Wildcats will play in Class 3A region two during the 2024 season. Following realignment, the Wildcats remain in 3A but move from region three over to region two. The Wildcats have one of the toughest overall schedules in Class 3A. Their opponents had a combined record of 65-49 last season. That ranks 9th in Class 3A and 64th in the AHSAA. Top priority this fall will be to find a replacement for graduated starting quarterback Walker McClinton and the 2,190 yards he threw for last season. The Wildcats will also open the 2024 football season without the services of running back Ross Sanders who graduated in the spring along with the 1,456 yards and 28 touchdowns he scored last year. The Wildcats will also need to find a capable wide receiver to fill the void left by the loss of Webber McClinton to graduation. Region 2 is crowded with playoff caliber teams. Five schools made the post season last year but only three posted a winning record. With Montgomery Academy and Slocomb dropping down from 4A it could make for a very interesting season in Region 2. Thompson McNees is expected to start at quarterback when the season opens. The Wildcats are considered one of the favorites for the region two championship this season and a home game in the first round of the playoffs. The Wildcats have successfully qualified for the playoffs every year since 2017 and expect to be included again when November rolls around. Players to Watch in 2024: WR Xavier Boswell will be returning for his senior season after catching 33 passes for 485 yards and 6 touchdowns. LB Luke Hall had 60 tackles on defense and will be back for his junior season. Returning Starters: QB/DE- Thompson McNees, QB/SS- John Michael Cox, RB/OLB- Chase Parker, TE/LB- John Morris, G/DT- McClain Brown, Jackson Randall, WR/FS- Bo Stewart, DB- Chayman Wilkins, LB- Luke Hall Season Opener: The Wildcats open the 2024 season on the road against non-region opponent Holtville on Friday, August 23 at Boykin-Chapman Field. Last year the Holtville Bulldogs finished with an overall record of 7-4 and in second place in Class 5A region three. The Bulldogs lost in the first round of the Class 5A playoffs to Headland by a score of 30-20. Trinity and Holtville have met a total of 5 times on the football field. The Wildcats have a 5-0-0 record against the Bulldogs. They last met in 1999 with Trinity winning by a score of 42-0. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
