 2024 Preview 


       Winterboro completed the 2023 season with a 6-6 record. With their 3-3 region record and a fourth place finish in Class 1A region six, the Bulldogs earned a spot in the playoffs in 2023. Winterboro reached the second round of the playoffs before falling to Pickens County by a score of 32-29.

       Since 2010, Winterboro has gone a combined 79-71. Their 52.7% winning percentage ranks 22nd in Class 1A over the past fourteen seasons.

       Over the past 25 seasons, Winterboro has managed to compile a record of 126-141. Their 47.0% winning percentage ranks 26th in Class 1A and 216th in the AHSAA.

Head Coach:
       The Bulldogs are led by head coach Skylar Mansfield who is entering his fifth season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 25-20 over the past four seasons at Winterboro. Under his direction the Bulldogs have qualified for the playoffs a total of three times. They have won one region crown with Coach Mansfield.

Season Outlook:

       The Winterboro Bulldogs will play in Class 1A region six during the 2024 season.

      

       With the closing of Talladega County Central Winterboro will be the big winner here. As many as fifteen players form there will suit up for the Bulldogs this fall. Quarterback Jhovi Cole, wide receivers and defensive backs Khemani Robinson, and Thomas Gooden and offensive guard Jamarcus Hall will all be on the Winterboro roster when the season opens.

       Only two opponents on the Bulldog's 2024 schedule qualified for the playoffs last season. One of those two was Vincent and the other was region favorite Wadley. Last year the Bulldogs finished 6-6 losing in the second round in a close game to Pickens County. They will be looking to build upon that good season and win a few more games in 2024.

       Coach Mansfield had this to say about this year's team at Winterboro, ''We have fifteen additions from Talladega County Central coming into the fall. We lost three Seniors, returning 30 players from 2023.''

    The Bulldogs have a good shot at one of the last two playoff slots in region six this season.

Season Opener:
       The Bulldogs open the 2024 season at home against non-region opponent Vincent on Friday, August 23 at Bulldog Stadium. Last year the Vincent Yellow Jackets finished with an overall record of 6-5 and in fourth place in Class 2A region four. The Yellow Jackets lost in the first round of the Class 2A playoffs to Clarke County by a score of 20-9.

       Winterboro and Vincent have met a total of 42 times on the football field. The Bulldogs have a 14-26-2 record against the Yellow Jackets. They last met in 2023 with Vincent winning by a score of 29-0.
