2024 Preview | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Hackleburg completed the 2023 season with a 11-2 record. Last year Hackleburg captured the region eight title and a number one seed in the Class 1A playoffs. They finished region play with a 7-0 record. It was the first region championship for the Panthers since the 2017 season. Hackleburg lost in the quarter-finals of the playoffs last season to a good Coosa Christian team by a score of 63-13. The Panthers won as many games as in any season since 2009. The Panthers hope to continue the success they had last season. Coach Hudson saw improvement as they won eleven games following a 6-5 record in 2022. Since 2010, Hackleburg has gone a combined 106-55. Their 65.8% winning percentage ranks 11th in Class 1A over the past fourteen seasons. Over the past 25 seasons, Hackleburg has managed to compile a record of 171-111. Their 61.0% winning percentage ranks 13th in Class 1A and 83rd in the AHSAA. Head Coach: The Panthers are led by head coach Rod Hudson who is entering his sixteenth season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 120-56 over the past fifteen seasons at Hackleburg. Under his direction the Panthers have qualified for the playoffs a total of fourteen times. They have won six region crowns with Coach Hudson. His 120 wins rank 48th among active coaches in the AHSAA. Season Outlook: The Hackleburg Panthers will play in Class 1A region seven during the 2024 season. Following realignment, the Panthers remain in 1A but move from region eight over to region seven. Hackleburg will have an experienced team in 2024 with 10 players who started games last year returning on offense. They will also return eight starters to the defense. The Panthers enjoyed last year with an 11-2 record which was their best finish since the 2009 football season. Can they build on that success in 2024? They return starting quarterback Blaise Vickery and a very good running back in Davin Dulaney so the prospects are good for another great season in Hackleburg. Coach Hudson told us about this year's team. ''We got several starters returning, juniors and seniors across the board, excited about the season.'' The Panthers are considered one of the favorites for the region seven championship this season and a home game in the first round of the playoffs. Players to Watch in 2024: QB Blaise Vickery will be returning for his senior season after completing 100-of-145 passes for 1,336 yards and 20 TDs last season. He also ran for another 586 yards and scored 11 touchdowns. RB Davin Dulaney will also return after rushing for 976 yards and 10 TDs last season as a junior. WR Jaquan Reeder will be back for his senior season after catching 28 passes for 519 yards and 5 touchdowns. LB Noah Tubb collected 113 tackles will be back for his junior season.
