2024 Preview | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Hamilton finished the 2023 season with a disappointing 1-9 record. Last year Hamilton finished seventh in Class 4A region five with a 1-6 region record and failed to qualify for the playoffs. The defense allowed a team record 464 points last season. Hamilton struggled on the defensive side of the football last year. The defense found little success in stopping opposing offenses as they gave up an average of 46.4 points a game. The Aggies would prefer to forget the past two seasons as they have finished with a 2-18 record. Since 2010, Hamilton has gone a combined 85-71. Their 54.5% winning percentage ranks 28th in Class 4A over the past fourteen seasons. Over the past 25 seasons, Hamilton has managed to compile a record of 171-114. Their 60.0% winning percentage ranks 19th in Class 4A and 101st in the AHSAA. Head Coach: The Aggies are led by head coach Evan Shipp who is entering his second season at the helm. His team finished with a 1-9 record in his first season at Hamilton. The Aggies have yet to reach the playoffs under his direction. They have not won a region crown with Coach Shipp. Season Outlook: The Hamilton Aggies will play in Class 4A region five during the 2024 season. Four losing seasons in a row is not something the Hamilton Aggies are accustomed to. The last time that happened was 1934. They also only won two games the past two seasons. That's the fewest in consecutive seasons since 1933. This football program has won 631 games since 1912 which is the 21st most in state history. They will not stay down long. There is too much tradition and support for the program to allow it to falter very long. Look for the Aggies to rebound very soon. This season, the Aggies will be a long shot for one of the four playoff spots in region five. Players to Watch in 2024: QB Mason Holloway will be returning for his sophomore season after completing 35-of-79 passes for 642 yards and 5 TDs last season. Returning Starters: RB Blake Vaughn, OLB/RB Eli Harris, WR/CB Kel Battle Season Opener: The Aggies open the 2024 season on the road against non-region opponent Phil Campbell on Friday, August 30 at Parrish Stadium. Last year the Phil Campbell Bobcats finished with an overall record of 4-7 and in fourth place in Class 3A region eight. The Bobcats lost in the first round of the Class 3A playoffs to Gordo by a score of 56-6. Hamilton and Phil Campbell have met a total of 32 times on the football field. The Aggies have a 27-4-1 record against the Bobcats. They last met in 2005 with Hamilton winning by a score of 34-7. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
