2024 Preview | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Holy Spirit finished the 2023 season with a disappointing 2-8 record. Last year Holy Spirit finished seventh in Class 1A region five with a 1-6 region record and failed to qualify for the playoffs. The Saints have never won a playoff game in the school's history. They would like to break through and pick up that first post season victory in 2024. The offense struggled putting points on the score board as Holy Spirit averaged scoring just 10.6 points a game. The Saints also struggled on the defensive side of the football as they found little success in stopping opposing offenses and allowed an average of 38.7 points a game. The Saints would prefer to forget the past two seasons as they have finished with a 3-17 record. Since 2010, the Holy Spirit football program has struggled with a record of 23-87. Over the past 17 seasons, Holy Spirit has not won much with a record of 58-114. Their 34.0% winning percentage ranks 44th in Class 1A and 326th in the AHSAA. Head Coach: The Saints are led by head coach Bobby Snyder who is entering his third season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 3-17 over the past two seasons at Holy Spirit. The Saints have yet to reach the playoffs under his direction. They have not won a region crown with Coach Snyder. Season Outlook: The Holy Spirit Saints will play in Class 1A region three during the 2024 season. Following realignment, the Saints remain in 1A but move from region five over to region three. Building back the football program after not fielding a team in 2020 has proven difficult for Coach Snyder. A little improvement each season should go a long way to establishing the program in the near future. The Saints could find themselves challenging for one of the playoff spots for region three this season with a few breaks and a little improvement. Holy Spirit has failed to qualify for the playoffs since 2017 but hope to return to the post season this year. Returning Starters: SS/TE Alex Tant, RB/WR Jacorey Stevens Season Opener: The Saints open the 2024 season at home against non-region opponent Verbena on Friday, August 23 at Arthur Howington Field. Last year the Verbena Red Devils finished with an overall record of 2-8 and in eighth place in Class 1A region four. The Red Devils ended last season on a positive note with a win over A.L. Johnson by a score of 1-0 after failing to gain a playoff spot. This will be the second meeting between Holy Spirit and Verbena on the football field. The Saints have a 0-1-0 record against the Red Devils. They last met in with | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
