2024 Preview | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Verbena finished the 2023 season with a disappointing 2-8 record. Last year Verbena finished eighth in Class 1A region four with a 1-6 region record and failed to qualify for the playoffs. The Red Devils hope to rebound after a down year. Last season they struggled winning just two games which followed a 8-3 record in 2022. Verbena was inconsistent offensively last year and they need some improvement if the Red Devils want to be competitive. They only averaged 15.3 points a game. Verbena struggled on the defensive side of the football last year. The defense found little success in stopping opposing offenses as they gave up an average of 36.5 points a game. Since 2010, the Verbena football program has struggled with a record of 45-97. Over the past 25 seasons, Verbena has not won much with a record of 84-171. Their 33.0% winning percentage ranks 43rd in Class 1A and 322nd in the AHSAA. Head Coach: The Red Devils are led by head coach Allen Brothers who is entering his fourth season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 14-17 over the past three seasons at Verbena. Under his direction the Red Devils have qualified for the playoffs once. They have not won a region crown with Coach Brothers. Over the course of his career, Coach Brothers' teams have qualified for the playoffs a total of three times . Season Outlook: The Verbena Red Devils will play in Class 1A region four during the 2024 season. After a great 2022 season where the Red Devils finished 8-3 they fell back a little last year with a 2-8 record. Coach Brothers will have higher expectations for this year's team. The Red Devils will need to win a few more games this fall if they hope to grab one of the four playoff slots in region four this season. After just 2 wins last year, Verbena will be hoping to become more competitive in the region. Season Opener: The Red Devils open the 2024 season on the road against non-region opponent Holy Spirit on Friday, August 23 at Arthur Howington Field. Last year the Holy Spirit Saints finished with an overall record of 2-8 and in seventh place in Class 1A region five. The Saints closed out the regular season with a loss to Fayetteville by a score of 47-0. This will be the second meeting between Verbena and Holy Spirit on the football field. The Red Devils have a 1-0-0 record against the Saints. They last met in with | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
