2024 Preview | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Ider finished the 2023 season with a disappointing 2-7 record. Last year Ider finished seventh in Class 2A region seven with a 1-6 region record and failed to qualify for the playoffs. The defense allowed a team record 360 points last season. Ider was inconsistent offensively last year and they need some improvement if the Hornets want to be competitive. They only averaged 14.4 points a game. Ider struggled on the defensive side of the football last year. The defense found little success in stopping opposing offenses as they gave up an average of 40.0 points a game. The Hornets would prefer to forget the past two seasons as they have finished with a 4-15 record. Since 2010, Ider has gone a combined 59-85. Their 41.0% winning percentage ranks 36th in Class 1A over the past fourteen seasons. Over the past 25 seasons, Ider has managed to compile a record of 98-159. Their 38.0% winning percentage ranks 39th in Class 1A and 301st in the AHSAA. Head Coach: The Hornets are led by head coach Chad Grant who is entering his fourth season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 11-19 over the past three seasons at Ider. Under his direction the Hornets have qualified for the playoffs once. They have not won a region crown with Coach Grant. Season Outlook: The Ider Hornets will play in Class 1A region eight during the 2024 season. The Hornets may find the schedule slightly easier this season with the move down in classification from Class 2A to 1A. They will compete in region eight this year. The Hornets enter the 2024 season in the middle of a 7 game losing streak. They would like nothing better than to end the string of losses early in the season. It's been a while since the Ider Hornets won a playoff game. Actually they have not won one since the great season back in 2009. But first things first. They need to improve enough to get back to the post season first. The drop to 1A in classification may help that cause. This season, the Hornets will be a long shot for one of the four playoff spots in region eight. Season Opener: The Hornets open the 2024 season on the road against non-region opponent Section on Friday, August 23 at Section Stadium. Last year the Section Lions finished with an overall record of 2-8 and in sixth place in Class 2A region seven. Ider and Section have met a total of 42 times on the football field. The Hornets have a 25-17-0 record against the Lions. They last met in 2023 with Section winning by a score of 49-26. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
