2024 Preview | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Section finished the 2023 season with a disappointing 2-8 record. Last year Section finished sixth in Class 2A region seven with a 2-5 region record and failed to qualify for the playoffs. The defense allowed a team record 438 points last season. The offense struggled putting points on the score board as Section averaged scoring just 13.7 points a game. The Lions also struggled on the defensive side of the football as they found little success in stopping opposing offenses and allowed an average of 43.8 points a game. The Lions would prefer to forget the past two seasons as they have finished with a 3-17 record. Since 2010, Section has gone a combined 48-93. Their 34.0% winning percentage ranks 44th in Class 2A over the past fourteen seasons. Over the past 25 seasons, Section has managed to compile a record of 109-151. Their 42.0% winning percentage ranks 38th in Class 2A and 269th in the AHSAA. Head Coach: The Lions are led by head coach Riley Edwards who is entering his second season at the helm. His team finished with a 2-8 record in his first season at Section. The Lions saw improvement from a 1-9 record the season before coach Edwards arrived. The Lions have yet to reach the playoffs under his direction. They have not won a region crown with Coach Edwards. Season Outlook: The Section Lions will play in Class 2A region seven during the 2024 season. The Lions would like to improve on the last two years as they won just three games over those two seasons. Coach Edwards enters his second season at the helm with hopes of doing just that if possible. Region 7 does offer the possibility of a playoff spot with some improvement. The Lions will need to win a few more games this fall if they hope to grab one of the four playoff slots in region seven this season. After just 2 wins last year, Section will be hoping to become more competitive in the region. Season Opener: The Lions open the 2024 season at home against non-region opponent Ider on Friday, August 23 at Section Stadium. Last year the Ider Hornets finished with an overall record of 2-7 and in seventh place in Class 2A region seven. Section and Ider have met a total of 42 times on the football field. The Lions have a 17-25-0 record against the Hornets. They last met in 2023 with Section winning by a score of 49-26. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
