 2024 Preview

Jackson completed the 2023 season with a 11-1 record. The Aggies cruised through the regular season with a perfect 9-0 record going into the post season. Last year Jackson captured the region one title and a number one seed in the Class 4A playoffs. They finished region play with a 7-0 record. It was the first region championship for the Aggies since the 2015 season. Jackson lost in the quarter-finals of the playoffs last season to a good B.T. Washington team by a score of 20-17.

The high-scoring Jackson offense ranked 28th in the AHSAA. They averaged 40.1 points a game.

The Aggies defense dominated most opponents as they ranked 4th in the AHSAA. The defense gave up just 8.2 points a game.

As one of the best football programs in the state since 2010, Jackson has gone a combined 134-40. Their 77.0% winning percentage ranks 2nd in Class 4A over the past fourteen seasons.

Over the past 25 seasons, Jackson has managed to compile a record of 191-103. Their 65.0% winning percentage ranks 14th in Class 4A and 75th in the AHSAA. Their last losing season was 2007.

Graduated All-State Players:
Jackson lost 4A All-State  kicker Jeramie Houston to graduation. He was named to the first team last season. Also graduating were teammates defensive lineman Cam Pritchett and defensive back QJ Steele.

Head Coach:
The Aggies are led by head coach Cody Flournoy who is entering his sixth season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 42-18 over the past five seasons at Jackson. Under his direction the Aggies have qualified for the playoffs a total of five times. They have won one region crown with Coach Flournoy. Over the course of his career, Coach Flournoy's teams have qualified for the playoffs a total of six times and won one region championship.

Season Outlook:

The Jackson Aggies will play in Class 4A region one during the 2024 season.

The Aggies have one of the toughest overall schedules in Class 4A. Their opponents had a combined record of 72-43 last season. That ranks 2nd in Class 4A and 21st in the AHSAA.

The Aggies enter the 2024 season riding a 16 game regular season winning streak. They have won 9 straight games on their home turf at Legion Field.

The Aggies 16 game regular season winning streak could be in serious jeopardy with an opening game against 6A Saraland followed by games with 5A Demopolis and 7A Baker.

Coach Flournoy told AHSFHS.org ''Offensively, Jackson is led by South Carolina QB commit Landon Duckworth. The Jr QB will look to improve his numbers and wins by hooking up with UCF commit Keeyun ''Red'' Chapman and returning Seniors King and Payne. Adding the WR corps will be Bama commit Jamarrion ''Juice'' Gordon and Isaiah Gladney. Not to be outdone will be Sophomore running back EJ Crowell who will look to improve on his 1800 yards of rushing last year behind 3 returning offensive linemen led by Team captains and 4 year starters Nylun Williams and Markevian Blake.''

He added ''Defensively, the Aggies will have to replace a stout defensive front from 2023, but still has a lot of speed and experience led by middle linebacker ''Scooter'' Whisenhunt and Jaiden McDonald. Up front, key contributors to last year's team will roll into starting positions like Laraymond Hunt and Jayden Tate and newcomer TR Hodge. On the backend, the secondary will be long and fast, highlighted by Bama commit Jamarrion Gordon and Sr Junior Payne. The Aggie defense will be bolstered by both youth and experience from contributors like Sr DBs Teigh Skanes, Kwun Pugh, Jon Tarleton and sophomore LBs Josh Bryant and Jeremiah McKenzie.''

''Overall, the Jackson Aggies have championship goals in 2024 and look to improve on a 2023 Region championship and a quarterfinal appearance. The 2024 schedule got tougher as the Aggies start the season off at 6A runner up Saraland followed by 5A quarter finalist Demopolis before entering Region play vs. Escambia. Then a trip to 7A Baker before hosting 3A champion and new region opponent Mobile Christian. Next is 5A LeFlore before traveling to St. Michaels for a big 4A region 1 matchup. A tough region slate will finish the season with Orange Beach, Neal, and Satsuma. The only easy week for the Aggies will be Week 10, their bye week, before the playoffs.''

The Aggies enter the season with expectations of not only a region crown but will be contending for a trip to the state championship game. They are considered one the favorites in region one and should be a team in the thick of the hunt to represent the South in the Class 4A Super Seven come December. The Aggies have succeeded in reaching the playoffs every year since 2007 and this year should be no exception.

Players to Watch in 2024:
QB Landon Duckworth will be returning for his junior season after completing 118-of-196 passes for 1,971 yards and 27 TDs last season. He also ran for another 371 yards and 5 touchdowns.
