2024 Preview | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Jackson-Olin finished the 2023 season with a disappointing 0-10 record. Last year Jackson-Olin finished seventh in Class 6A region five with a 0-6 region record and failed to qualify for the playoffs. The Mustangs lost as many games as in any season since 2009. The offense struggled putting points on the score board as Jackson-Olin averaged scoring just 10.8 points a game. The Mustangs also struggled on the defensive side of the football as they found little success in stopping opposing offenses and allowed an average of 41.6 points a game. The Mustangs would prefer to forget the past two seasons as they have finished with a 4-17 record. Since 2010, Jackson-Olin has gone a combined 60-85. Their 41.4% winning percentage ranks 44th in Class 6A over the past fourteen seasons. Over the past 25 seasons, Jackson-Olin has managed to compile a record of 88-166. Their 35.0% winning percentage ranks 52nd in Class 6A and 319th in the AHSAA. Coaching Change: Walter Jordan leaves Jackson-Olin after just one season that saw his team finish a disappointing 0-10 on the field. 2024 Head Coach: Joe Webb the former UAB quarterback has been hired as the head football coach at Jackson-Olin High School. Webb attended the Ensley High School from 2001-2004. He transferred to Wenonah for his senior season and enrolled at UAB in 2005. He went on to enjoy a ten-year NFL career that saw him play for the Panthers, Bills, and Texans, among others. Season Outlook: The Jackson-Olin Mustangs will play in Class 6A region five during the 2024 season. The Mustangs enter the 2024 season in the middle of a 12 game losing streak. They would like nothing better than to end the string of losses early in the season. The Mustangs are coming off an 0-10 season last year and will welcome their fourth head football coach in as many seasons to the campus. This season, the Mustangs will be a long shot for one of the four playoff spots in region five. After not winning a single game last year, the goal at Jackson-Olin will be to simply win some games. Season Opener: The Mustangs open the 2024 season at home against non-region opponent Wenonah on Friday, August 23 at J-O Field. Last year the Wenonah Dragons finished with an overall record of 6-4 and in fifth place in Class 5A region five. Jackson-Olin and Wenonah have met a total of 30 times on the football field. The Mustangs have a 14-13-3 record against the Dragons. They last met in 2021 with Jackson-Olin winning by a score of 48-7. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
