Lamar County completed the 2023 season with a 7-4 record. With their 4-2 region record and a fourth place finish in Class 2A region five, the Bulldogs earned a spot in the playoffs in 2023. Lamar County's season came to an end in the first round of the playoffs when they fell to Tanner by a score of 64-55. Since 2010, Lamar County has gone a combined 83-73. Their 53.2% winning percentage ranks 24th in Class 2A over the past fourteen seasons. Over the past 25 seasons, Lamar County has managed to compile a record of 144-134. Their 52.0% winning percentage ranks 28th in Class 2A and 188th in the AHSAA. Graduated All-State Players: Lamar County lost 2A All-State running back Jordan Godsey to graduation. He was named to the second team last season. Head Coach: The Bulldogs are led by head coach Robert Bradford who is entering his eighth season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 38-40 over the past seven seasons at Lamar County. Under his direction the Bulldogs have qualified for the playoffs a total of six times. They have not won a region crown with Coach Bradford. Over the course of his career, Coach Bradford's teams have qualified for the playoffs a total of nine times . Season Outlook: The Lamar County Bulldogs will play in Class 2A region five during the 2024 season. The Bulldogs have one of the toughest overall schedules in Class 2A. Their opponents had a combined record of 64-48 last season. That ranks 7th in Class 2A and 72nd in the AHSAA. Lamar County will face six opponents that reached the playoffs last season. Lamar County enters the 2024 season with a string of 6 consecutive wins on their home field at George Bell Stadium. Top priority this fall will be to find a replacement for graduated starting quarterback Xander Bradford and the 1,621 yards and 11 touchdowns he threw for last season. The Bulldogs will also open the 2024 football season without the services of running back Jordan Godsey who graduated in the spring along with the 2,373 yards and 34 touchdowns he scored last year. The Bulldogs will face eight teams that qualified for the playoffs in 2023. With the AHSAA realignment region 5 has six teams that qualified for the playoffs last year. Someone will be left out of the post season come November. Last year the Bulldogs started the season 6-0 including a big win over Tuscaloosa Academy before faltering late losing four of their last five games all on the road. The Bulldogs have a good shot at one of the last two playoff slots in region five this season. Returning Starters: QB Bobby Austin Westbrook, RB/LB Miles Fenster, RB Catcher Duncan, WR/SS Devonte McKinney, WR/SS Tristan Herring, WR Jay Long Season Opener: The Bulldogs open the 2024 season on the road against non-region opponent South Lamar on Friday, August 23 at J.C. McAdams Field. Last year the South Lamar Stallions finished with an overall record of 8-4 and in second place in Class 1A region five. The Stallions lost in the second round of the Class 1A playoffs to Wadley by a score of 81-27. Lamar County and South Lamar have met a total of 40 times on the football field.
