 2024 Preview 


       McKenzie completed the 2023 season with a 5-5 record. Last year McKenzie finished sixth in Class 1A region two with a 3-5 region record and failed to qualify for the playoffs.

       Since 2010, McKenzie has gone a combined 75-70. Their 51.7% winning percentage ranks 23rd in Class 1A over the past fourteen seasons.

       Over the past 25 seasons, McKenzie has managed to compile a record of 124-138. Their 47.0% winning percentage ranks 30th in Class 1A and 223rd in the AHSAA.

Head Coach:
       The Tigers are led by head coach Brian Bradford who is entering his second season at the helm. His team finished with a 5-5 record in his first season at McKenzie. The Tigers saw improvement from a 1-8 record the season before coach Bradford arrived. The Tigers have yet to reach the playoffs under his direction. They have not won a region crown with Coach Bradford. Over the course of his career, Coach Bradford's teams have qualified for the playoffs a total of four times .

Season Outlook:

       The McKenzie Tigers will play in Class 1A region two during the 2024 season.

      

       Top priority this fall will be to find a replacement for graduated starting quarterback Jaylen McMillian and the 1,562 yards and 20 touchdowns he threw for last season.

       Johnny Davison, a thousand yard rusher from last season, will be back in the backfield for the Tigers in 2024. They have missed the playoffs the past two seasons and will be working to get back there when August rolls around.

    The Tigers have a good shot at one of the last two playoff slots in region two this season. McKenzie missed the playoffs the past couple of seasons but hope to return to the post season this year.

Players to Watch in 2024:
      RB Johnny Davison will return after rushing for 1,002 yards and 11 TDs last season as a freshman. Also back will be WR Skylar Sanders will be returning for his senior season after catching 26 passes for 609 yards and 8 touchdowns.

      WR Haigen Gann will be returning for his senior season after catching 50 passes for 782 yards and 8 touchdowns.

Season Opener:
       The Tigers open the 2024 season on the road against non-region opponent Wilcox Central on Friday, August 23 at Wilcox Central Jaguars Athletic Complex. Last year the Wilcox Central Jaguars finished with an overall record of 2-8 and in eighth place in Class 4A region one. The Jaguars ended last season on a positive note with a win over J.F. Shields by a score of 54-16 after failing to gain a playoff spot.

       McKenzie and Wilcox Central have met a total of 5 times on the football field. The Tigers have a 4-1-0 record against the Jaguars. They last met in 2023 with McKenzie winning by a score of 47-28.
