2024 Preview | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Monroe County finished the 2023 season with a disappointing 1-9 record. Last year Monroe County finished eighth in Class 3A region one with a 0-7 region record and failed to qualify for the playoffs. The defense allowed a team record 452 points last season. The Tigers have not qualified for the playoffs since the 2003 season and would love to end that streak this year. The Tigers last playoff victory came during the 2003 season. They would love to break through this year with a post season win. Monroe County was inconsistent offensively last year and they need some improvement if the Tigers want to be competitive. They only averaged 17.4 points a game. Monroe County struggled on the defensive side of the football last year. The defense found little success in stopping opposing offenses as they gave up an average of 45.2 points a game. The Tigers would prefer to forget the past two seasons as they have finished with a 3-17 record. Since 2010, the Monroe County football program has struggled with a record of 33-106. Over the past 25 seasons, Monroe County has not won much with a record of 58-193. Their 23.0% winning percentage ranks 60th in Class 3A and 374th in the AHSAA. The Tigers have struggled on the football field with only three winning seasons during this time. Head Coach: The Tigers are led by head coach Shannon Felder who is entering his third season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 3-17 over the past two seasons at Monroe County. The Tigers have yet to reach the playoffs under his direction. They have not won a region crown with Coach Felder. Over the course of his career, Coach Felder's teams have qualified for the playoffs a total of ten times and won two region championships. Season Outlook: The Monroe County Tigers will play in Class 3A region one during the 2024 season. The Tigers enter the 2024 season in the middle of a 9 game losing streak. They would like nothing better than to end the string of losses early in the season. The Monroe County Tigers are struggling on the football field and have for some time. They have not been to the playoffs since the 2003 season and have not posted a winning record since then. They have also gone through nine different head coaches during that time. This season, the Tigers will be a long shot for one of the four playoff spots in region one. Season Opener: The Tigers open the 2024 season on the road against non-region opponent Florala on Friday, August 23 at Matthews Stadium. Last year the Florala Wildcats finished with an overall record of 7-4 and in fourth place in Class 1A region two. The Wildcats lost in the first round of the Class 1A playoffs to Sweet Water by a score of 48-22. Monroe County and Florala have met a total of 3 times on the football field.
