 2024 Preview

Oak Grove completed the 2023 season with a 6-5 record. With their 4-3 region record and a fourth place finish in Class 4A region five, the Tigers earned a spot in the playoffs in 2023. Oak Grove's season came to an end in the first round of the playoffs when they fell to Westminster Christian by a score of 35-13.

The Tigers improved in 2023 with their first winning season since 2015. The Tigers won as many games as in any season since 2011. It marked the first time since the 2010 season that the Tigers qualified for the playoffs. The Tigers last playoff victory came during the 2004 season. They would love to break through this year with a post season win.

Since 2010, Oak Grove has gone a combined 48-94. Their 33.8% winning percentage ranks 54th in Class 4A over the past fourteen seasons.

Over the past 25 seasons, Oak Grove has managed to compile a record of 115-146. Their 44.0% winning percentage ranks 48th in Class 4A and 243rd in the AHSAA.

Graduated All-State Players:
Oak Grove lost 4A All-State  athlete Collin Pate to graduation. He was named to the honorable mention team last season.

Head Coach:
The Tigers are led by head coach Chris Musso who is entering his third season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 10-11 over the past two seasons at Oak Grove. Under his direction the Tigers have qualified for the playoffs once. They have not won a region crown with Coach Musso. Over the course of his career, Coach Musso's teams have qualified for the playoffs a total of seven times .

Season Outlook:

The Oak Grove Tigers will play in Class 4A region four during the 2024 season. Following realignment, the Tigers remain in 4A but move from region five over to region four.

Oak Grove will face six opponents that reached the playoffs last season.

With the AHSAA realignment region 4 has six teams that qualified for the playoffs last year. Not all of those teams will make the post season this year. The schedule seems manageable for the Tigers and although the region had a bunch of playoff teams from last year it is possible for Oak Grove to grab one of the four spots available come November.

The Tigers will return six players to the offense and nine on defense. So it would appear their strength will lie on the defensive side of the football in 2024. A returning quarterback and a couple of good running backs will spark the offense.

Coach Musso stated briefly ''10 new opponents! Playing in the south.''

The Tigers have a good shot at one of the last two playoff slots in region four this season.

Returning Starters:
OFFENSE: QB Noah Chapman, OL Caden Broadhead, OL Jack Scott, RB Jay Fuller, RB Braxton Yocom, RB Makhi Martin
DEFENSE: Kyler Pollastrini DB, Braxton Yocom DB, Evan Carlin DB, Wiley Hicks DB, Ethan Jones, Connor Brooks LB, Know Parten DL, Bain Morris DL, Jackson Bonnett DL
NEWCOMERS: Jackson Hyde LB, Anthony Pearce OL, Andrew Nix OL, Zy Hubbard RB, Seth Wooten WR, Brooks Covin LB

Season Opener:
The Tigers open the 2024 season at home against non-region opponent Weaver on Friday, August 23 at Tiger Stadium. Last year the Weaver Bearcats finished with an overall record of 4-6 and in sixth place in Class 3A region four. The Bearcats ended last season on a positive note with a win over Pleasant Valley by a score of 47-0 after failing to gain a playoff spot.

This will be the second meeting between Oak Grove and Weaver on the football field. The Tigers have a 1-0-0 record against the Bearcats. They last met in with
