2024 Preview | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Randolph completed the 2023 season with a 6-5 record. With their 6-1 region record and a second place finish in Class 4A region eight, the Raiders earned a spot in the playoffs in 2023. Randolph's season came to an end in the first round of the playoffs when they fell to Corner by a score of 42-21. Since 2010, Randolph has gone a combined 74-77. Their 49.0% winning percentage ranks 36th in Class 4A over the past fourteen seasons. Over the past 17 seasons, Randolph has managed to compile a record of 86-89. Their 49.0% winning percentage ranks 38th in Class 4A and 201st in the AHSAA. Head Coach: The Raiders are led by head coach David Lloyd who is entering his fifth season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 31-16 over the past four seasons at Randolph. Under his direction the Raiders have qualified for the playoffs a total of four times. They have not won a region crown with Coach Lloyd. Over the course of his career, Coach Lloyd's teams have qualified for the playoffs a total of six times . Season Outlook: The Randolph Raiders will play in Class 4A region eight during the 2024 season. The Raiders have one of the toughest overall schedules in Class 4A. Their opponents had a combined record of 66-51 last season. That ranks 9th in Class 4A and 86th in the AHSAA. The Raiders finished last season 6-5 losing in the first round of the playoffs. Region 8 added Madison Academy and Plainview so the chances for a playoff spot will be diminished slightly for all the teams in the region. They return quarterback William Mitchell who was 4A Region 8 Offensive Player of the Year and accounted for 2,962 total yards 33 touchdowns. That is a great starting point when putting a winning team on the field come August. Having Noah Grant back to catch those passes will also be beneficial for the Raiders. The offense will be very good, the question may be can the defense stop opponents and give the ball back to that potent offense? Randolph will return seven starters from last year to the offense and five on defense. Coach Lloyd is optimistic about the Raiders playoff chances in 2024. ''We play a pretty tough schedule with at least 3 preseason Top 10 teams in West Morgan, Madison Academy, and Pisgah. We return a great core group of players and a good bit of experience on both sides of the ball. We should be in the race for a playoff position. The goal is to win our first region title and earn a playoff spot for the fifth consecutive year.'' The Raiders should be in contention for a playoff spot in region eight this season. Hosting a first round playoff game on their home turf would be an advantage. Players to Watch in 2024: QB William Mitchell will be returning after completing 112-of-160 passes for 1,484 yards and 14 TDs last season. Mitchell accounted for 2,962 total yards and 33 touchdowns. He was the 4A Region 8 Offensive Player of the Year WR/FS Noah Gaunt accounted for 806 all purpose yards including 25 receptions and 457 yards. Returning Starters: OFFENSE: William Mitchell -QB; Graham Batey -RB; Noah Gaunt -WR; Hunter Wiggins -TE; JP Christopher -OL; Bradford Hall -OL; Gibson Smith -OL DEFENSE: Bradford Hall -LB; Graham Batey -DB; Park Strickland -LB; Hunter Wiggins -DE; Jonathan Billions -DB NEWCOMERS: Tyler DeOrio -WR/DB; Walker Mitchell -WR/DB; Ben Shannon -LB/RB; Mihai Stroe -OL/DL Season Opener: The Raiders open the 2024 season at home against non-region opponent West Morgan on Friday, August 23 at SportsMed Field. Last year the West Morgan Rebels finished with an overall record of 12-1 and in first place in Class 4A region seven. The Rebels lost in the quarter-finals round of the Class 4A playoffs to Cherokee County by a score of 28-27. Randolph and West Morgan have met a total of 5 times on the football field. The Raiders have a 2-3-0 record against the Rebels. They last met in 2023 with West Morgan winning by a score of 41-20. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
