Southern Choctaw completed the 2023 season with a 4-7 record. With their 3-3 region record and a fourth place finish in Class 1A region one, the Indians earned a spot in the playoffs in 2023. Southern Choctaw's season came to an end in the first round of the playoffs when they fell to Loachapoka by a score of 34-6. Since 2010, Southern Choctaw has gone a combined 68-79. Their 46.3% winning percentage ranks 29th in Class 1A over the past fourteen seasons. Over the past 25 seasons, Southern Choctaw has managed to compile a record of 162-117. Their 58.0% winning percentage ranks 14th in Class 1A and 96th in the AHSAA. Head Coach: The Indians are led by head coach Larry Boykin who is entering his fifteenth season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 117-53 over the past fourteen seasons at Southern Choctaw. Under his direction the Indians have qualified for the playoffs a total of twelve times. They have won six region crowns with Coach Boykin. Coach Boykin has won three state championships at Southern Choctaw, the last coming in 2002. His 165 wins rank 30th among active coaches in the AHSAA. Over the course of his career, Coach Boykin's teams have qualified for the playoffs a total of eighteen times and won six region championships. Season Outlook: The Southern Choctaw Indians will play in Class 1A region one during the 2024 season. The Indians have one of the toughest overall schedules in Class 1A. Their opponents had a combined record of 53-51 last season. That ranks 7th in Class 1A and 160th in the AHSAA. If any coach can rebuild the football program at Southern Choctaw it is head coach Larry Boykin. He did win a few championships at the school back in the 1990s. The Indians have a good shot at one of the last two playoff slots in region one this season. Returning Starters: TE Gavin Sellers, LB/RB Darron Philon, DB/WR Jamauri Dailey, RB/QB Quentorious Bender, WR/S Triston Hill, DE/WR Jayden Foster, FB/DT Demarrius Johnson Season Opener: The Indians open the 2024 season at home against non-region opponent Choctaw County on Friday, August 30 at The Reservation. Last year the Choctaw County Tigers finished with an overall record of 5-4 and in third place in Class 1A region one. The Tigers lost in the first round of the Class 1A playoffs to Maplesville by a score of 41-14. Southern Choctaw and Choctaw County have met a total of 86 times on the football field.
