 2024 Preview 


       Springwood completed the 2023 season with a 9-3 record. With their 4-1 region record and a second place finish in Class AISA-8 Man region one, the Wildcats earned a spot in the playoffs in 2023. Last year Springwood reached the semi-finals before falling to a very good Cornerstone Christian team by the score of 66-18.

       The Wildcats won as many games as in any season since 2011.

       Since 2010, Springwood has gone a combined 73-80. Their 47.7% winning percentage ranks 1st in Class A over the past fourteen seasons.

       Over the past 25 seasons, Springwood has managed to compile a record of 129-142. Their 48.0% winning percentage ranks 1st in Class A and 18th in the AISA.

Head Coach:
       The Wildcats are led by head coach Joey Burch who is entering his third season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 16-7 over the past two seasons at Springwood. Under his direction the Wildcats have qualified for the playoffs a total of two times. They have won one region crown with Coach Burch. Over the course of his career, Coach Burch's teams have qualified for the playoffs a total of four times and won one region championship.

Season Outlook:

       The Springwood Wildcats will play in Class A region one during the 2024 season. The Wildcats may find the schedule slightly easier this season with the move down in classification from Class AISA-8 Man to A. They will compete in region one this year.

      

       The Wildcats of Springwood won nine games which was the most since the 2011 football season. They lost in the finals of the AISA 8 Man Championship to Cornerstone and would like nothing better than to get back there this November.

       Coach Burch had this say about his Springwood Wildcats in 2024. ''We hope to return to the AISA 8 Man Championship and win this year''



    The Wildcats enter the season with expectations of not only a region crown but will be contending for a trip to the state championship game. They are considered one of the favorites not only in their region but to play in the AISA title game in November.

Season Opener:
       The Wildcats open the 2024 season on the road against non-region opponent Southern Christian on Friday, August 23. Last year the Southern Christian Patriots finished with an overall record of 1-6 and in place in Class 8 Man region eleven.

       Springwood and Southern Christian have met a total of 3 times on the football field. The Wildcats have a 2-1-0 record against the Patriots. They last met in 2023 with Springwood winning by a score of 50-7.

  


Great Moments in Alabama High School Football History

Luverne 'Toad' Wise was the first female football player in Alabama and may have been the first in the country. She was a kicker for the Escambia County Blue Devils in 1939-40.
