2024 Preview | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
St. Clair County finished the 2023 season with a disappointing 3-7 record. Last year St. Clair County just missed making the playoffs with a fifth place finish in Class 5A region six with a 2-4 region record. The Fighting Saints won as many games as in any season since 2017. St. Clair County was inconsistent offensively last year and they need some improvement if the Fighting Saints want to be competitive. They only averaged 16.9 points a game. St. Clair County struggled on the defensive side of the football last year. The defense found little success in stopping opposing offenses as they gave up an average of 38.9 points a game. The Fighting Saints would prefer to forget the past two seasons as they have finished with a 3-17 record. Since 2010, St. Clair County has gone a combined 47-100. Their 32.0% winning percentage ranks 47th in Class 5A over the past fourteen seasons. Over the past 25 seasons, St. Clair County has managed to compile a record of 119-148. Their 45.0% winning percentage ranks 35th in Class 5A and 255th in the AHSAA. Head Coach: The Fighting Saints are led by head coach Tyler Robinson who is entering his second season at the helm. His team finished with a 3-7 record in his first season at St. Clair County. The Fighting Saints saw improvement from a 0-10 record the season before coach Robinson arrived. The Fighting Saints have yet to reach the playoffs under his direction. They have not won a region crown with Coach Robinson. Season Outlook: The St. Clair County Fighting Saints will play in Class 5A region six during the 2024 season. While a 3-7 record at most schools is a dismal season, at St. Clair County it was an improvement over the past five seasons. The Saints had won one game in the previous four years so any wins at all are appreciated. The Fighting Saints will need to win a few more games this fall if they hope to grab one of the four playoff slots in region six this season. Season Opener: The Fighting Saints open the 2024 season at home against non-region opponent Jemison on Friday, August 23 at St. Clair Stadium. Last year the Jemison Panthers finished with an overall record of 1-9 and in sixth place in Class 5A region three. The Panthers closed out the regular season with a loss to Elmore County by a score of 56-6. This will be the second meeting between St. Clair County and Jemison on the football field. The Fighting Saints have a 1-0-0 record against the Panthers. They last met in with | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
