 2024 Preview 


       St. Luke's completed the 2023 season with a 6-5 record. With their 4-1 region record and a second place finish in Class 2A region one, the Wildcats earned a spot in the playoffs in 2023. St. Luke's's season came to an end in the first round of the playoffs when they fell to Isabella by a score of 44-17.

       The Wildcats improved in 2023 with their first winning season since 2018.

       Since 2010, St. Luke's has gone a combined 68-80. Their 45.9% winning percentage ranks 34th in Class 2A over the past fourteen seasons.

       Over the past 14 seasons, St. Luke's has managed to compile a record of 68-80. Their 46.0% winning percentage ranks 32nd in Class 2A and 233rd in the AHSAA.

Coaching Change:
     Ronn Lee  retired after twenty-nine seasons as a head football coach in Alabama. He spent the last nine at St. Luke's with a record of 42-55 and five playoff appearances.

2024 Head Coach:
    Joe Gilmore  was immediately named the next head football coach at St. Luke's following the retirement of Coach Lee. Gilmore will be the fourth head football coach in school history following Eddie Guth, John Beverly and Lee. He served on the staff at St. Luke's as offensive line coach between 2016-2018. The last five years he was at Northlake Christian School in Covington, LA where he was the offensive coordinator. This will be Gilmore's first head coaching job.

Season Outlook:

       The St. Luke's Wildcats will play in Class 2A region one during the 2024 season.

      

       The Wildcats started last year 5-0 and 6-1 but lost their last four games to finish with a 6-5 record. It was still their best showing since the 2018 football season. Ronn Lee has retired so they will look to new leadership when the season opens in August

    The Wildcats should be in contention for a playoff spot in region one this season. Hosting a first round playoff game on their home turf would be an advantage.

Players to Watch in 2024:
      QB Jeremy Menhennett will be returning for his junior season after completing 69-of-152 passes for 1,050 yards and 14 TDs last season.

Season Opener:
       The Wildcats open the 2024 season on the road against non-region opponent McIntosh on Friday, August 23 at H.H. Wiggins Field. Last year the McIntosh Demons finished with an overall record of 2-7 and in fifth place in Class 1A region one.

       St. Luke's and McIntosh have met a total of 7 times on the football field. The Wildcats have a 5-2-0 record against the Demons. They last met in 2019 with St. Luke's winning by a score of 60-52.
