 2024 Preview 


       Sumiton Christian finished the 2023 season with a disappointing 0-10 record. Last year Sumiton Christian finished ninth in Class 1A region five with a 0-0 region record and failed to qualify for the playoffs.

       Sumiton Christian took a step backwards last year with their first losing season since 2019. The Eagles lost as many games as in any season since 2009. The Eagles hope to rebound after a down year. Last season they did not win a game which followed a 5-5 record in 2022.

       The offense struggled putting points on the score board as Sumiton Christian averaged scoring just 6.7 points a game.

       Since 2010, Sumiton Christian has gone a combined 56-87. Their 39.2% winning percentage ranks 38th in Class 1A over the past fourteen seasons.

       Over the past 25 seasons, Sumiton Christian has managed to compile a record of 121-143. Their 46.0% winning percentage ranks 28th in Class 1A and 232nd in the AHSAA.

Coaching Change:
     Jeremy Moon  spent just one season at Sumiton Christian and saw his team finish 0-10. Following three consecutive winning season the previous three years the Eagles could not find their winning ways under Coach Moon. This will be the tenth different head coach at Sumiton Christian over the past 20 years.

2024 Head Coach:
    Jarius Williams  lands his first head coaching job at Sumiton Christian this fall.

Season Outlook:

       The Sumiton Christian Eagles will play in Class 1A region five during the 2024 season.

      

       The Eagles enter the 2024 season in the middle of a 10 game losing streak. They would like nothing better than to end the string of losses early in the season.

       In today's world of high school football teams need to score a lot of points to win games in most cases. The Eagles could not do that last year and scored a total of 67 points in an 0-10 season.

       Region 5 is stocked with playoff quality teams so the Eagles will need to find more offense to compete with the other teams.

    This season, the Eagles will be a long shot for one of the four playoff spots in region five. After not winning a single game last year, the goal at Sumiton Christian will be to simply win some games.

Season Opener:
       The Eagles open the 2024 season at home against non-region opponent Victory Christian on Friday, August 23 at David Campbell Field. Last year the Victory Christian Lions finished with an overall record of 4-6 and in fifth place in Class 1A region six. The Lions closed out the regular season with a loss to Coosa Christian by a score of 49-0.

       Sumiton Christian and Victory Christian have met a total of 7 times on the football field. The Eagles have a 3-4-0 record against the Lions. They last met in 2021 with Sumiton Christian winning by a score of 26-6.
