 2024 Preview 


       Sumter Central completed the 2023 season with a 4-5 record. Last year Sumter Central finished sixth in Class 3A region three with a 1-5 region record and failed to qualify for the playoffs.

       No team at Sumter Central ever won more games in a season than the four victories last year. The last time they won as many was back in 2011. The Jaguars have not qualified for the playoffs since the 2011 season and would love to end that streak this year. They have never won a playoff game in the school's history.

       Sumter Central was inconsistent offensively last year and they need some improvement if the Jaguars want to be competitive. They only averaged 18.2 points a game.

       The Jaguars would prefer to forget the past two seasons as they have finished with a 4-13 record.

       Sumter Central is a relatively new football program having fielded a team only thirteen seasons. They have managed a record of 19-108 over the past thirteen years.

       Over the past 13 seasons, Sumter Central has not won much with a record of 19-108. Their 15.0% winning percentage ranks 61st in Class 3A and 389th in the AHSAA. The Jaguars have struggled on the football field with no winning seasons during this time.

Head Coach:
       The Jaguars are led by head coach Scottie Jones who is entering his fifth season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 5-31 over the past four seasons at Sumter Central. The Jaguars have yet to reach the playoffs under his direction. They have not won a region crown with Coach Jones. Over the course of his career, Coach Jones' teams have qualified for the playoffs a total of one time .

Season Outlook:

       The Sumter Central Jaguars will play in Class 3A region three during the 2024 season.

      

       The four wins the Jaguars posted last season may not seem like much to many schools but it is their best showing since their initial season in 2011. It was the same number of games they had won the previous six seasons combined.

    The Jaguars could find themselves challenging for one of the playoff spots for region three this season with a few breaks and a little improvement. Sumter Central has failed to qualify for the playoffs since 2011 but hope to return to the post season this year.

Season Opener:
       The Jaguars open the 2024 season on the road against non-region opponent Choctaw County on Friday, August 23 at Tiger Stadium. Last year the Choctaw County Tigers finished with an overall record of 5-4 and in third place in Class 1A region one. The Tigers lost in the first round of the Class 1A playoffs to Maplesville by a score of 41-14.

       Sumter Central and Choctaw County have met a total of 4 times on the football field. The Jaguars have a 0-4-0 record against the Tigers. They last met in 2021 with Choctaw County winning by a score of 1-0.
