 2024 Preview 


       Talladega finished the 2023 season with a disappointing 0-10 record. Last year Talladega finished seventh in Class 4A region four with a 0-6 region record and failed to qualify for the playoffs.

       The offense struggled putting points on the score board as Talladega averaged scoring just 12.7 points a game. The Tigers also struggled on the defensive side of the football as they found little success in stopping opposing offenses and allowed an average of 43.8 points a game.

       The Tigers would prefer to forget the past two seasons as they have finished with a 0-20 record. Since 2010, Talladega has gone a combined 37-105. Their 26.1% winning percentage ranks 60th in Class 4A over the past fourteen seasons.

       Over the past 25 seasons, Talladega has not won much with a record of 56-196. Their 22.0% winning percentage ranks 63rd in Class 4A and 383rd in the AHSAA. The Tigers have struggled on the football field with only two winning seasons during this time.

Coaching Change:
     William F. Smith  could not find the winning formula at Talladega and will not return next season. His two years with the program produced an 0-20 record at a school not known for winning many football games the past thirty years. Coach Smith had been successful in stints at Shades Valley and Munford previously. This will be the ninth new hire in the past twenty years for Talladega.

2024 Head Coach:
    Damien Dorsey  takes over the football program at Talladega to start the 2024 season. He has two years experience as a head coach at Talladega County Central in 2012-2013 where his two teams finished a combined 9-12. Over the course of his career, Coach Dorsey's teams have qualified for the playoffs a total of one time .

Season Outlook:

       The Talladega Tigers will play in Class 4A region three during the 2024 season. Following realignment, the Tigers remain in 4A but move from region four over to region three.

      

       The Tigers enter the 2024 season in the middle of a 21 game losing streak. They would like nothing better than to end the string of losses early in the season.

       To say the Talladega Tigers are struggling is an understatement. They finished the past two seasons 0-20 and have won one game the past three years. They have not won more than six games in any season since 1993.

       There is still a lot of work to be done in Talladega to get the football program rebuilt and change the fortunes of the team. It will all begin this year as incoming head coach Damien Dorsey steps in to try and turn the Tigers into winners. They play in a tough region so it will not be an easy task.

    This season, the Tigers will be a long shot for one of the four playoff spots in region three. After not winning a single game last year, the goal at Talladega will be to simply win some games.

Season Opener:
       The Tigers open the 2024 season at home against non-region opponent White Plains on Thursday, August 22 at Mary Dumas Stadium. Last year the White Plains Wildcats finished with an overall record of 2-8 and in sixth place in Class 4A region four. The Wildcats closed out the regular season with a loss to Westbrook Christian by a score of 45-16.

       Talladega and White Plains have met a total of 3 times on the football field. The Tigers have a 0-3-0 record against the Wildcats. They last met in 2023 with White Plains winning by a score of 43-29.
