2024 Preview | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Tarrant finished the 2023 season with a disappointing 3-7 record. Last year Tarrant finished seventh in Class 3A region five with a 1-5 region record and failed to qualify for the playoffs. Tarrant struggled on the defensive side of the football last year. The defense found little success in stopping opposing offenses as they gave up an average of 37.0 points a game. Since 2010, Tarrant has gone a combined 43-93. Their 31.6% winning percentage ranks 55th in Class 4A over the past fourteen seasons. Over the past 25 seasons, Tarrant has managed to compile a record of 129-136. Their 49.0% winning percentage ranks 39th in Class 4A and 200th in the AHSAA. Head Coach: The Wildcats are led by head coach Matt Stockton who is entering his second season at the helm. His team finished with a 3-7 record in his first season at Tarrant. The Wildcats saw improvement from a 2-8 record the season before coach Stockton arrived. The Wildcats have yet to reach the playoffs under his direction. They have not won a region crown with Coach Stockton. Season Outlook: The Tarrant Wildcats will play in Class 4A region four during the 2024 season. The Wildcats move up in classification to Class 4A. They may find the going slightly tougher with the move. Tarrant will face six opponents that reached the playoffs last season. The Tarrant Wildcats have not been to the playoffs since 2018. Since not fielding a football team during the Covid year of 2020 they have won five games in three seasons as they try to play catchup with everyone else. They are on their fourth head coach since then too. Second year head coach Matt Stockton will do everything he can to rebuild the football program. Moving up to 4A will only make the task even more difficult. The Wildcats will need to win a few more games this fall if they hope to grab one of the four playoff slots in region four this season. Season Opener: The Wildcats open the 2024 season on the road against non-region opponent Montevallo on Thursday, August 22 at Theron Fisher Stadium. Last year the Montevallo Bulldogs finished with an overall record of 7-3 and in fifth place in Class 4A region three. The Bulldogs ended last season on a positive note with a win over Tarrant by a score of 41-21 after failing to gain a playoff spot. Tarrant and Montevallo have met a total of 7 times on the football field. The Wildcats have a 2-5-0 record against the Bulldogs. They last met in 2023 with Montevallo winning by a score of 41-21. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
