Westbrook Christian's Matt Dickey out as basketball coach; Matt Cody takes over program
the beginning of the summer, Matt Dickey?s church, First Baptist Church of Trussville, approached the 29-year-old about a student minister position. Dickey prayed about it, and it was a tough decision to make for the now former Westbrook coach. ?I love Westbrook,? Dickey said. ?I?ve loved being there coaching. I love the students. There?s been nothing wrong with Westbrook. I wasn?t searching for an opportunity to get out. It was that the Lord was calling me to student ministry.? Once Dickey discussed the situation with the administration at Westbrook Christian School, the decision was made for the UNC Asheville graduate to not return for his third season with the Warriors. ?I know everyone is looking out for the best interest of the players and the future of the program,? said Dickey, who was The Gadsden Times? Boys Coach of the Year in 2018. ?And I want what is best for them as well. I am saddened to not be able to coach this season like I hoped, but at the same time I know the program will continue to move forward. They?ll have a great season this year because they are a veteran group.? Matt Cody will take over the Warrior basketball program. He?s been an assistant the past two years for Dickey.
