I just realized that Beauregard is in the playoffs at 3-7.

So my first thought, "How did they get enough region wins to qualify? Must be another 7A-R4 tie-breaker oddity."

Nope. All 3 wins against region opponents. Every other game is a loss.

3-7 in the playoffs has to be a worst ever, or tied for worst ever. No way a 2-8 team has made it.

Yeah, I don't think it will ever be as bad as that 5A Region 3 in 2023.

With these 6-7 team regions, you're going to get a few almost every year with 3 wins. There are 6 this year I think with only 3 wins. It didn't happen, but in doing my bracketology a few weeks ago there was a scenario for a 1-win team to make it this year in a 6-team region.

That's freaking hilarious.

TWO 2-win teams making the playoffs.

I've followed AHSAA football for quite some time and didn't even realize that happened. OMG.

It is one of the region I follow closely and root for but 2A R8 is pretty bad this year. 3-7 Tanner made the playoffs. Granted, it is a 6 team region so that ups the odds of getting bad teams in, but I would not be shocked if they are swept. I think they could win 1, but even it is up in the air.

To be fair, there were regions back in the bad old days of Area play where a team could theoretically win an area at 1-9 and an 0-10 team could make the playoffs!

For instance https://www.ahsfhs.org/teams2/gamesbyyear.asp?year=1996&Team=R.A.+Hubbard when Courtland went 2-7 and Mt Hope went 1-8 in a two team area.

Yeah, I remember Brewer made it one year at 2-8. Think it was 1998. It was a 3 team area and all they had to do was beat an Arab team in the middle of its 30+ game losing streak to qualify. Meanwhile there were 6-4 teams and a few 7-3 teams that were starting basketball early. Thought the Region system was supposed to eliminate most of this.

Probably the worst part though is that I would likely pick Beauregard over most of the playoff teams from the region they are matched up with - just not Northside. They scheduled (relatively) tough out of region and have some transitive wins. Beauregard beat Holtville 27-0 where as Holtville beat Shelby County (#3 in the region they cross with) 35-13. Did Holtville's QB get hurt or something?

I get what you?re saying but there is no transitive property of football. We see examples every year. For instance look at the Gordo, Winfield and Vinemont games this year.
