Most Interesting: Brad Palmer returning to Waterloo
after being away for the past four seasons may light a spark under the
program. The last two years he was there proved to be a couple of the best
seasons in the school's history. Jeff Foshee take over at Autauga Academy as they venture into the AHSAA. He spent sixteen seasons as the head coach at Stanhope Elmore between 2000-2015.
2024 Coaching Changes | |||||
Class 1A saw
eleven head
coaching changes after the close of the
2023 football season. Several of those changes came late and over the
summer so teams will have little time to adapt to a new coach and system. Only
five of the new hires have any head football
coaching experience. Only two programs making changes at the top, Autauga Academy and Florala, had a winning record last season.

Most Victories | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Larry Boykin leads all 1A coaches with
165
victories at Southern Choctaw. There are a lot of very good
young head coaches at this level. The future is bright for these football
programs no doubt. Seven coaches have topped the 100 victory mark. Roland Jones Jr. has put together a nice record winning 144 games over the past 16 seasons at Brantley and Crenshaw Christian.
| ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Most Playoff Victories
Coach Boykin at Southern Choctaw leads the 1A
coaches with 26 playoff wins. Most of those wins came in his last stint at
the school between 1994-2006.
| ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Longest Tenure at Current School
Rod
Hudson at Hackleburg leads the list of longest tenured coaches in Class 1A. The average tenure for all 1A coaches is
5.1
years which only trail Class 3A.
|
Coaching Turnover 2000-2024
The lack of success in most football programs often
leads to a change in the head coach.
These schools have had the most head coaching changes over the past 24 years.
No schools have had more changes than J.F. Shields in
any classification. Pickens County has been a consistent winner the past
couple of decades but for some reason the Tornados have made nine coaching
changes yet only gone through two losing seasons.
