Leroy   Bears     (14-0)

Outlook:   Top priority this fall will be to find a replacement for graduated starting quarterback Brayden Huebner and the 1,827 yards and 28 touchdowns he threw for last season. The Bears also will be without the service of running back Malik Howell who graduated.
One bright spot will be the defense as most of the starters on that side of the football will be back and ready to defend their 1A state championship in 2024. No less than six players who started the championship game last year will be back in their positions when fall practice begins in August. The offense will also return six starters.
Fans should expect to see Leroy still playing football in late November and possibly into December as the Bears will reload and make a run at their third straight state championship in 2024.

Sweet Water   Bulldogs     (9-2)

Outlook:   The Sweet Water Bulldogs are always a team to watch. Just when you begin to watch other programs here they come again with another of those patented playoff runs. It's been a couple of years since they won a state championship so it may be time to pay attention to the Bulldogs once again in 2024.
They have made the playoffs every year since 2000 so look for them to add to that streak again this year.
The Bulldogs seem on the verge of making another push for a trip to the Super Seven in 2024. They return a cast of experienced players and fans should look for another patented Sweet Water team this season. A lot of the players expected to start this fall gained valuable playing time last year.
Coach Thompson had this to say about the Bulldogs in 2024. ''We have thirteen seniors with lots of playing time. Really need some young guys to step up and provide some depth. Moved into a really tough region but we expect to play for championships.''

Brantley   Bulldogs     (8-5)

Outlook:   The Bulldogs have qualified for the playoffs in each of the past 27 football seasons. Since 1982 they have only missed the post season three times. That is the sign of a winning football program.
Coach Jones stated ''We have several returning starters at skill positions, the OL is the key as we have several young guys that have to fill the shoes of the seniors that left.'' He thinks a couple of young players will make an impact for the Bulldogs this season in Tyler Carter and Michael Thompson.
Brantley will return nine starters to the offense and all eleven starters to a very good defense this season. Look for the Bulldogs to be in the thick of things this fall in 1A as they will put a veteran group of athletes on the field.

Elba   Tigers     (13-1)

Outlook:   What do you think the Tigers will do on offense in 2024? A safe bet would be that they will ''run da ball''. Behind all-world running back Alvin Henderson why would you do anything else. As long as Henderson stays healthy the Tigers will be a threat to win it all in 1A this season. His numbers are staggering the past couple of years. He ran for 3,523 yards and a state record 61 TDs in 2023.
Their 27 game regular season winning streak could be in jeopardy early in the season with games against Luverne and Glenwood School to open the season. If they get past those two opponents the streak should be safe for another year.
The Tigers return five starters to the offense and five on defense in 2024. A group of newcomers will be looked to for added support early in the upcoming season. The Elba Tigers have reached the playoffs in 16 of the past 17 seasons and this year will be no different. They have won region championships the past three seasons and there is no reason to believe they will not win another one in 2024.

Florala   Wildcats     (7-4)

Outlook:   The Florala Wildcats have put together back-to-back 7-4 seasons and have reached the playoffs in five of the past six years. Prior to 2018 they had missed out on the post season ten consecutive years so this is a pretty good run for the Wildcats.
Can they take the next step and win a playoff game in 2024? It's something they have not accomplished since 2007.

RB Elijah McMeans will also return after rushing for 575 yards and 6 TDs last season as a junior. WR Elijah McMeans will be back for his senior season after catching 25 passes for 541 yards and 6 touchdowns.
LB Rayshon Coleman collected 104 tackles (48 solo) on defense and will be returning. Elijah McMeans collected 88 tackles (41 solo) on defense and will be returning.
Other Returning Players:
WR/CB Noah Bryan, FB/CB Greyson West, LB Bradley Norman, Landon Prescott, FB/TE Kaden Cantrell

Georgiana   Panthers     (10-2)

Outlook:   Coach Bess has taken the Panthers from 0-10 to 10-2 in two short years. They had a very solid team last year with the offense scoring 425 points and the defense only allowing 108. They played every game tough only losing to Elba and eventual state champions Leroy in the second round of the playoffs. At one point the defense pitched five shutouts in a row in the middle of the season.
These Panthers are for real and will be a force to reckon with in 1A south. They return eight starters on offense and six on defense so look for Georgiana to be around in the later playoff weeks in 2024.
Coach Bess told us ''Went from 0-10 in 2021, 7-4 in 2022 first round playoff loss. 10-2 in 2023 second round playoff loss. Hope to add to the playoff appearances of the past two years & make a deeper run. Region champion aspirations. The Juniors & Seniors have been playing together since they were 8th & 9th graders.''

Outlook:   Linden only graduated two players from last year's squad so look for the Patriots to put a competitive team on the field once late August arrives in west Alabama. Returning players at quarterback, running back and receiver will give them plenty of experience on offense.
Region 3 is one of the weakest in 1A so what do the Patriots do to gain a few quality opponents to get that needed experience once the playoffs roll around in November? Coach Lockett goes out and schedules 4A Fultondale and a very good football program in Chipley, Florida to open the 2024 season.
Linden has qualified for the playoffs every season since 2007 and has only lost in the first round twice during that run. One of those two times was last season when they fell to Brantley in the opening round. Do not look for the same thing to happen this fall.

Outlook:   Top priority this fall will be to find a replacement for graduated starting quarterback Cale Tittle and the 2,177 yards and 26 touchdowns he threw for last season. He also ran for another 1,257 yards and 27 TDs.
The Lynn Bears have put together back-to-back ten win seasons for the first time in school history under Coach Mark Hastings. He has done a great job of build the football program at Lynn and now can work toward maintaining the program in the future.
Coach Hasting told us. ''We have most of our OL back along with a couple of playmakers. QB/RB/Rec all gone, if we can distribute the ball we have a chance to score points. Defense I think we can be strong in the front, secondary has a lot of inexperience.''
He believes the Bears will be better on defense and will use more formations to spread the ball around on offense. He thinks they will be pretty good up front and will continue to be on the right track.

Outlook:   Donoho struggled last year finishing the year with an 0-9 record. A coaching change with a veteran coach in William Smith could be just what the program needs to quickly rebuild it.
The Falcons will be young with a lot of new players filling posts on the roster this season. They do return several skilled position players with experience last year. Six players return to the offense but only two on defense.

Outlook:   The Fayetteville Wolves will be looking forward to the 2024 football season. Especially Coach Limbaugh since they will dropping back down to 1A after spending the past ten seasons in 2A. They will be joined in Region 6 by Woodland who also dropped from 2A.
The Wolves open the season against 3A Childersburg then Billingsley before opening region play against Wadley. They would like nothing better than to get back to the playoffs, something they have not done since the 2019 football season. Only two teams currently in Region 6 made the playoffs in 2023 (Wadley and Winterboro).
Coach Limbaugh told AHSFHS.org ''Returning Junior running back Cameron Hammonds looks to build upon a stellar sophomore season in which he rushed for over 1200 yards and contributed more than 20 all-purpose touchdowns. Other names to look out for on offense are Brenton Cantrell at QB and Carter Goins at WR. On the defensive side, Senior DB Cole Hardy leads the way with Juniors Aiden Blair and Ross Thomas stepping into starting spots at middle backer.''
''With the drop from a very difficult 2A region and into 1A, it's playoffs or bust for the Wolves in 2024. Coach John Limbaugh is the only football coach in Fayetteville history to boast more than one playoff appearance. Can the Wolves give him a third?
