Clarke County   Bulldogs     (7-6)

Outlook:   Coach Carter will have Pugh back at quarterback for the 2024 season and that should be a great starting point for the Bulldogs in his second season in Grove Hill. The Bulldogs also return a couple of excellent linebackers so the middle of the defense should be very solid.
The Bulldogs will also open the 2024 football season without the services of running back AJ Ezell who graduated in the spring along with the 1,786 yards and 25 touchdowns he scored last year.
The Bulldogs will face seven teams that qualified for the playoffs in 2023. They return seven players on offense and seven on defense in 2024 so the team should have experienced players all over the field when the season opens.
Coach Carter told us ''Clarke County returns a strong defense in '24. The experience at LB will be the strength of the defense for the upcoming season. Offensively the Dawgs will be young up front but with excellent speed at skill positions and 2nd year QB TaMyus Pugh, they should get better each week of the season.''

Goshen returns six players to an offense that scored 472 points last year and nine players to the defense. The offense will have their quarterback, running back and a couple of receivers back which should mean a bunch of points scored this season.

All four came at the hands of Reeltown and B.B. Comer. Last seasons losses were by no more than seven points in each loss so they are very close to being on par with the 2A big boys.
Highland Home will return eight starters from last season most of whom played both ways for the Flying Squadron in 2023.
First year head coach Justin Bragg told us about this year's team. ''We are returning our core group of players from last years team on offense and defense.     Luverne will return six starters on both side of the football so there will be some experienced players when the season begins on August 23rd against Elba.
First year head coach Bobby Hudson said. ''We have key pieces back and also some new faces that mesh well with the team we are trying to build.     While they have not found much success the past two years finishing both seasons 3-6 the outlook should be more optimistic in 2024. Region 3 has the likes of Reeltown and Goshen fighting for that top spot but Pike could sneak in and grab one of the four playoff spots.

The Mustangs return six starters from last season to the offense and seven on defense so experienced players will be the key to success at Isabella this season.

Outlook:   Get ready 2A. Here come the Knights. They did not really sneak up on anyone last year but this will be a veteran squad put on the field this season by Coach Wright in Tuscaloosa. Lancaster is back at quarterback along with two very good receivers. The defense will be solid.
The Knights did lose two good receivers in Mills Powell and James Stanard but have capable replacements in Hamiter and Colgrove.
The schedule is brutal to say the least. The Knights open with 4A American Christian and close with Coosa Christian and Bayside Academy.

The Wildcats will open the 2024 football season without the services of running back Rykelus Robertson who graduated in the spring along with the 1,448 yards and 16 touchdowns he scored last year.
The defense will return nine starters including MLB Grayson Gulde who will once again secure the middle of the field for the Jackets. A rather tough non-region schedule with 3A B.B. Outlook:   While the Conquerors should be able to navigate the region schedule it will be the non-region opponents that will test them the most this season. They start off against Pierce County, Georgia who won a state championship there last year. Then they take on 6A Pell City.
In the middle of the season they host 2A state champions Fyffe and close the regular season on October 24th by hosting Tuscaloosa Academy. Back-to-back nine wins seasons at Coosa Christian are the best since they joined the AHSAA in 2005. This year's team is loaded with talent and will be looking to make a championship run in 2024.
They came up a little short last year losing to Leroy in the 1A championship game 28-21. They expect nothing short of returning to the Super 7 in December. The Conquerors return about 16 starters from last year's team that will have more juniors than seniors this year.
Coach O'Bryant told AHSFHS.org about this year's squad at Coosa Christian ''We have a great group returning on both sides of the ball, really looking to have a great year.'' He said at media days they have about 35 players on the varsity squad.

West End returns six starters from last year's 5-6 team on offense and six to the defense. So there is still a nucleus of players with experience and some newcomers they hope will step up in key roles as the season progresses.
First year head Coach Matt Harris said about this year's team ''2024 should be a solid season for WEHS with several key returning starters and plenty of experience for those who will be entering new roles as full time starters.     Last year the Eagle's offense put up 652 points. That number alone should tell you how good this team was. It bested the old school record by 200 points. Coach Pruitt has built something special in Pisgah and has the fans believing that 2024 is their year.
All around athlete Luke Gilbert will be a team leader at the quarterback position this fall. The Eagles also return nine seniors and twelve juniors this year. A total of seventeen starters from last season will be welcomed back when the season opens in August against Fyffe.

Winston County   Yellow Jackets     (5-5)

Outlook:   The Yellow Jackets came within one victory last season of making the playoffs but fell just short. They will be working hard over the summer to improve on the 5-5 record and get back to the post season.
The Jackets will return seven starters from last year's team on offense and seven to the defense. Several players will be expected to play both ways again as most 1A-2A schools find necessary. The offense does have Landon Kelley back at quarterback and RaKim Moore at running back so that is a great starting point for the offense that scored 309 points in ten games last season.
