 2016 Preview 


       Last year Ashville finished seventh in Class 3A region 6 with a 1-6 region record and failed to qualify for the playoffs.

       Since 2010, Ashville has gone a combined 16-44. Their 27.0% winning percentage ranks 54th in Class 4A over the past six seasons.

       Over the past 25 seasons, Ashville has managed to compile a record of 114-146. Their 44.0% winning percentage ranks 38th in Class 4A and 247th in the AHSAA.

       The Bulldogs are led by head coach Steve Martin who is entering his third season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 6-24 over the past three seasons at Ashville. The Bulldogs have yet to reach the playoffs under his direction. They have not won a region crown with Coach Martin.

       Coach Martin's overall record as a head football coach in three seasons stands at 6-24 (20.0%).

      

      The Ashville Bulldogs will play in Class 4A region 5 during the 2016 season. The Bulldogs move up in classification to Class 4A. They may find the going slightly tougher with the move.

       It will be an uphill battle for the Bulldogs if they hope to grab one of the four playoff slots in Region 5 this season.

       The Bulldogs open the 2016 season on the road against non-region opponent Ragland on Friday, August 26 at Joan Ford Stadium. Last year the Ragland Purple Devils finished with an overall record of 3-8 and in fourth place in Class 1A region 5. The Purple Devils lost in the first round of the Class 1A playoffs to Cedar Bluff by a score of 47-26.

       Ashville and Ragland have met a total of 33 times on the football field. The Bulldogs have a 27-6-0 record against the Purple Devils. They last met in 2018 with Ashville winning by a score of 15-6.
