 2016 Preview

Last year Highland Home finished fifth in Class 2A region 3 with a 3-4 region record and failed to qualify for the playoffs.  The defense allowed a team record 430 points last season.

Since 2010, Highland Home has gone a combined 31-32. Their 49.0% winning percentage ranks 20th in Class 1A over the past six seasons.

Over the past 25 seasons, Highland Home has managed to compile a record of 147-129. Their 53.0% winning percentage ranks 19th in Class 1A and 158th in the AHSAA.

The Flying Squadron are led by head coach Gregg Baker who is entering his first season at the helm. His team finished with a 3-7 record in his first season at Highland Home. The Flying Squadron have yet to reach the playoffs under his direction. They have not won a region crown with Coach Baker.

Coach Baker's overall record as a head football coach in five seasons stands at 11-38 (22.4%).

The Highland Home Flying Squadron will play in Class 1A region 3 during the 2016 season. The Flying Squadron may find the schedule slightly easier this season with the move down in classification from Class 2A to 1A. They will compete in region 3 this year.

The Flying Squadron have a good chance to earn one of the playoff slots for Region 3 this season.

The Flying Squadron open the 2016 season on the road against non-region opponent Luverne on Friday, August 26 at Glenn Daniel Stadium. Last year the Luverne Tigers finished with an overall record of 6-5 and in third place in Class 2A region 3. The Tigers lost in the first round of the Class 2A playoffs to Mobile Christian by a score of 43-19.

Highland Home and Luverne have met a total of 87 times on the football field. The Flying Squadron have a 18-66-3 record against the Tigers. They last met in 2023 with Highland Home winning by a score of 60-0.
