 2016 Preview 


       With their 4-2 region record and a second place finish in Class 3A region 5, the Wildcats earned a spot in the playoffs in 2015. Oakman reached the second round of the playoffs before falling to Piedmont by a score of 64-22.

       Averaging over ten wins a season since 2010, Oakman has gone a combined 49-21. Their 70.0% winning percentage ranks 6th in Class 3A over the past six seasons.

       Over the past 25 seasons, Oakman has managed to compile a record of 136-133. Their 51.0% winning percentage ranks 29th in Class 3A and 178th in the AHSAA.

       The Wildcats are led by head coach Mark Hastings who is entering his seventh season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 50-30 over the past seven seasons at Oakman. Under his direction the Wildcats have qualified for the playoffs a total of five times. They have won two region crowns with Coach Hastings.

       Coach Hastings's overall record as a head football coach in seventeen seasons stands at 99-82 (54.7%). Over the course of his career, Coach Hastings's teams have qualified for the playoffs a total of ten times and won two region championships.

      

      The Oakman Wildcats will play in Class 3A region 4 during the 2016 season. Following realignment, the Wildcats remain in 3A but move from region 5 over to region 4.

      

       The Wildcats open the 2016 season on the road against non-region opponent Lamar County on Friday, August 26 at George Bell Stadium. Last year the Lamar County Bulldogs finished with an overall record of 3-7 and in sixth place in Class 3A region 4. The closed out the regular season with a loss to Winfield by a score of 62-3.

       Oakman and Lamar County have met a total of 10 times on the football field. The Wildcats have a 4-6-0 record against the Bulldogs. They last met in 2018 with Lamar County winning by a score of 24-21.

  








Great Moments in Alabama High School Football History

The Tuscaloosa Black Bears were considered one of the best programs in the nation from 1925-1931. Their record over that span was an amazing 61-0-3.
