Last year Washington County captured the region 1 title and a number one seed in the Class 2A playoffs. They finished region play with a 7-0 record. Washington County lost in the quarter-finals of the playoffs last season to a strong Elba team by a score of 20-14. Over the past two seasons the Bulldogs have gone 23-4 and will be looking to continue that winning tradition. Averaging over ten wins a season since 2010, Washington County has gone a combined 67-15. Their 82.0% winning percentage ranks 4th in Class 2A over the past six seasons. Over the past 25 seasons, Washington County has managed to compile a record of 186-106. Their 64.0% winning percentage ranks 9th in Class 2A and 67th in the AHSAA. The Bulldogs are led by head coach Al Earnest who is entering his first season at the helm. His team finished with a 10-3 record in his first season at Washington County. Under his direction the Bulldogs have qualified for the playoffs once. They have won one region crown with Coach Earnest. Coach Earnest's overall record as a head football coach in one seasons stands at 10-3 (76.9%). Over the course of his career, Coach Earnest's teams have qualified for the playoffs a total of one time and won one region championship. The Bulldogs enter the 2016 season having won 16 straight region games. The Washington County Bulldogs will play in Class 2A region 1 during the 2016 season. The Bulldogs should be considered one of the favorites for the Region 1 championship this season and a home game in the first round of the playoffs. The Bulldogs open the 2016 season on the road against non-region opponent Millry on Thursday, August 25 at A.D. Britton Field. Last year the Millry Wildcats finished with an overall record of 7-4 and in second place in Class 1A region 1. The Wildcats lost in the first round of the Class 1A playoffs to Billingsley by a score of 53-28. Washington County and Millry have met a total of 87 times on the football field. The Bulldogs have a 59-24-4 record against the Wildcats. They last met in 2023 with Millry winning by a score of 57-0. Washington County returns 2A All-State Junior running back Austin Kinsey. He was named to the first team last season. The Bulldogs also return Senior linebacker Michael Anderson.
