Berry completed the 2015 season with a 10-3 record. Last year Berry captured the region six title and a number one seed in the Class 1A playoffs. They finished region play with a 6-0 record. It was the first region championship for the Wildcats since the 1996 season. Berry lost in the quarter-finals of the playoffs last season to a good Decatur Heritage Christian team by a score of 32-26. No team at Berry ever won more games in a season than the ten victories last year. Since 2010, Berry has gone a combined 48-24. Their 67.0% winning percentage ranks 12th in Class 1A over the past six seasons. Over the past 25 seasons, Berry has managed to compile a record of 136-136. Their 50.0% winning percentage ranks 25th in Class 1A and 184th in the AHSAA. Their last losing season was 2003. The Wildcats are led by head coach Danny Raines who is entering his fourteenth season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 97-53 over the past thirteen seasons at Berry. Under his direction the Wildcats have qualified for the playoffs a total of eleven times. They have won one region crown with Coach Raines. Coach Raines' overall record as a head football coach in thirteen season stands at 97-53 (64.7%). If Berry can win three games this season, Coach Raines will reach the 100 win milestone. The Berry Wildcats will play in Class 1A region five during the 2016 season. Following realignment, the Wildcats remain in 1A but move from region six over to region five. The Wildcats enter the 2016 season having won 8 straight region games. The Wildcats should be in contention for a playoff spot in region five this season. They will be looking to gain an advantage by hosting a first round postseason game. Quarterback James Raines returns for his senior season after completing 89 of 121 passes for 958 yards and 12 touchdowns as a junior last season. The Wildcats open the 2016 season on the road against non-region opponent Curry on Friday, August 19 at Hudson/ORear Field. Last year the Curry Yellow Jackets finished with an overall record of 1-9 and in sixth place in Class 4A region five. The Yellow Jackets closed out the regular season with a loss to Hayden by a score of 49-7. Berry and Curry have met a total of 6 times on the football field. The Wildcats have a 4-2-0 record against the Yellow Jackets. They last met in 1933 with Berry winning by a score of 6-0. Berry returns 1A All-State Senior offensive lineman Ethan Morrison. He was named to the honorable mention team last season. The Wildcats also return Senior quarterback James Raines.
