2016 Preview | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Clements finished the 2015 season with a disappointing 1-9 record. Last year Clements finished seventh in Class 3A region eight with a 1-6 region record and failed to qualify for the playoffs. The Colts have not qualified for the playoffs since the 2009 season and would love to end that streak this year. The Colts last playoff victory came during the 1988 season. They would love to break through this year with a post season win. Clements was inconsistent offensively last year and that needs to pick up if the Colts want to be competitive. They only averaged 18.6 points a game. Clements struggled on the defensive side of the football last year. The defense found little success in stopping opposing offenses as they gave up an average of 43.9 points a game. The Colts would prefer to forget the past two seasons as they have finished with a 2-18 record. Since 2010, the Clements football program has struggled with a record of 6-54. Over the past 25 seasons, Clements has not won much with a record of 67-187. Their 26.0% winning percentage ranks 57th in Class 3A and 362nd in the AHSAA. The Colts have struggled on the football field with only four winning seasons during this time. Their last winning season was 2009. The Colts are led by head coach Cody McCain who is entering his third season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 2-18 over the past two seasons at Clements. The Colts have yet to reach the playoffs under his direction. They have not won a region crown with Coach McCain. Coach McCain's overall record as a head football coach in four season stands at 8-32 (20.0%). Over the course of his career, Coach McCain's teams have qualified for the playoffs a total of one time . The Clements Colts will play in Class 3A region eight during the 2016 season. It will be an uphill battle for the Colts if they hope to grab one of the four playoff slots in region eight this season. After just a single win last year, Clements will be hopeful of winning a few more games this season. The Colts open the 2016 season on the road against non-region opponent Danville on Friday, August 19 at Smith-Owens Stadium. Last year the Danville Hawks finished with an overall record of 5-5 and in fifth place in Class 4A region five. The Hawks ended last season on a positive note with a win over Falkville by a score of 45-35 after failing to gain a playoff spot. Clements and Danville have met a total of 16 times on the football field. The Colts have a 10-6-0 record against the Hawks. They last met in 2011 with Clements winning by a score of 41-0. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
