2016 Preview | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Kingwood Christian finished the 2015 season with a disappointing 3-7 record. Since 2010, Kingwood Christian has gone a combined 29-36. Their 45.0% winning percentage ranks 7th in Class AA over the past six seasons. Over the past 24 seasons, Kingwood Christian has managed to compile a record of 89-137. Their 39.0% winning percentage ranks 10th in Class AA and 34th in the AISA. The Lions are led by head coach Sheldon Ward who is entering his second season at the helm. His team finished with a 3-7 record in his first season at Kingwood Christian. The Lions have yet to reach the playoffs under his direction. They have not won a region crown with Coach Ward. Coach Ward's overall record as a head football coach in four season stands at 7-32 (17.9%). The Kingwood Christian Lions will play in Class AA region one during the 2016 season. The Lions may find the schedule slightly easier this season with the move down in classification from Class AAA to AA. They will compete in region one this year. Overall, the region is among the weakest in the state. Qualifying for one of the playoffs spots could be a little easier. The Lions will be in the mix for one of the last two playoff spots in region one this season. Kingwood Christian missed the playoffs the past couple of seasons but hope to return to the post season this year. The Lions open the 2016 season at home against non-region opponent Springwood on Friday, August 26 at Ron Cox Field. Last year the Springwood Wildcats finished with an overall record of 5-6 and in second place in Class AA region two. The Wildcats lost in the first round of the Class AA playoffs to Pickens Academy by a score of 41-31. Kingwood Christian and Springwood have met a total of 6 times on the football field. The Lions have a 3-3-0 record against the Wildcats. They last met in 2007 with Kingwood Christian winning by a score of 10-7. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
