2016 Preview | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Cold Springs completed the 2015 season with a 6-5 record. With their 4-2 region record and a third place finish in Class 2A region six, the Eagles earned a spot in the playoffs in 2015. Cold Springs's season came to an end in the first round of the playoffs when they fell to Sulligent by a score of 63-27. The 426 points scored by the Eagles last year were a team record in a single season. The Eagles last playoff victory came during the 1993 season. They would love to break through this year with a post season win. Since 2010, Cold Springs has gone a combined 23-39. Their 37.0% winning percentage ranks 40th in Class 2A over the past six seasons. Over the past 25 seasons, Cold Springs has managed to compile a record of 91-167. Their 35.0% winning percentage ranks 46th in Class 2A and 318th in the AHSAA. The Eagles are led by head coach Rodney Elliott who is entering his ninth season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 45-39 over the past eight seasons at Cold Springs. Under his direction the Eagles have qualified for the playoffs a total of four times. They have not won a region crown with Coach Elliott. Coach Elliott's overall record as a head football coach in eight season stands at 45-39 (53.6%). The Cold Springs Eagles will play in Class 2A region seven during the 2016 season. Following realignment, the Eagles remain in 2A but move from region six over to region seven. The Eagles have one of the toughest schedules in Class 2A. Their opponents had a combined record of 67-44 last season. That ranks 4th in Class 2A and 34th in the AHSAA. Region seven will be one of the most competitive regions in any classification this season. It will be an uphill battle for the Eagles if they hope to grab one of the four playoff slots in region seven this season. Unfortunately, Cold Springs finds themselves in a very competitive region with other playoff quality teams. They may need to pull off an upset or two to have any shot at the postseason. The Eagles open the 2016 season at home against non-region opponent Hanceville on Friday, August 19 at Eagle Stadium. Last year the Hanceville Bulldogs finished with an overall record of 3-7 and in fifth place in Class 3A region five. The Bulldogs closed out the regular season with a loss to Good Hope by a score of 41-21. Cold Springs and Hanceville have met a total of 9 times on the football field. The Eagles have a 3-6-0 record against the Bulldogs. They last met in 2009 with Hanceville winning by a score of 32-0. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
