Lowndes Academy completed the 2016 season with a 8-3 record. With their 3-2 region record and a third place finish in Class A region one, the Rebels earned a spot in the playoffs in 2016. Last year Lowndes Academy reached the semi-finals before falling to a very good Chambers Academy team by the score of 41-16. The Rebels won as many games as in any season since 2010. It marked the first time since the 2011 season that the Rebels qualified for the playoffs. Since 2010, Lowndes Academy has gone a combined 34-41. Their 45.0% winning percentage ranks 7th in Class A over the past seven seasons. Over the past 25 seasons, Lowndes Academy has managed to compile a record of 163-119. Their 58.0% winning percentage ranks 4th in Class A and 13th in the AISA. The Rebels are led by head coach Bob Taylor who is entering his third season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 13-8 over the past two seasons at Lowndes Academy. Under his direction the Rebels have qualified for the playoffs once. They have not won a region crown with Coach Taylor. Coach Taylor's overall record as a head football coach in thirteen season stands at 61-75 (44.9%). Over the course of his career, Coach Taylor's teams have qualified for the playoffs a total of seven times . The Lowndes Academy Rebels will play in Class A region one during the 2017 season. The Rebels will be in the mix for one of the last two playoff spots in region one this season. The Rebels open the 2017 season on the road against non-region opponent Coosa Valley Academy on Friday, September 1 at Don Greene/Rebels Stadium. Last year the Coosa Valley Academy Rebels finished with an overall record of 2-8 and in sixth place in Class AA region one. The Rebels ended last season on a positive note with a win over Sumter Academy by a score of 37-21 after failing to gain a playoff spot. Lowndes Academy and Coosa Valley Academy have met a total of 11 times on the football field. The Rebels have a 9-2-0 record against the Rebels. They last met in 2016 with Lowndes Academy winning by a score of 43-6. Lowndes Academy returns AISA All-State Senior punter Jon Johnson.
